I'm particularly interested in boys development (I heard there was a difference in male/female development) as I'm wondering when my son might start.

ds started walking at about 11 months but was a bit more delayed with talking compared to dd (who was also walking by 11 months)

My DS was 15 months when he started walking. Both my kids walked late but so did I because we are all quite hypermobile in our family!

DS was an early talker though - still has good speech for his age.

DS1: walked at 8.5 months, talked at around 12/13 months (single words, was stringing words together by 2)

DS2: walked at 10 months, didn't really talk until he was 2ish but that's because he had glue ear

DS3: walked at 9.5 months, talked around 18 months

I have boy/girl twins and don't buy into the general boy/girl stereotypes although many are determined to keep them going, it's just different personalities.
Ds walked at 14 months (he looked ready to go at 10 months but likes to be ultra confident before doing things, this trait has continued), he said first few words at 18 months and was talking in short sentences by 2.
Dd walked at 14 months (she didn't seem ready but copied ds, has a tendency to be more risky with physical stuff). Talked at 12 months, sentences 18 months (didn't realise at the time this was unusual).
They've obviously had the same environment and adults which makes it an interesting study!

Both DSs walked at 11 months.

They started speaking at around 19m.

Mobile but silent is dangerous Grin

Ds 1 spoke 11months (milk, car, bye, no, fish, mama, Dada, ball). Walked week before 15 months.

Ds 2 walked 11 months, talking at 13 months = hiya, look, car, ball, mama, dadda, his brother's name, cat, no, uh oh with a where gesture when he drops something, ah ah plus waggly finger as stop, toesies. He has glue ear with moderate bilateral loss which I think ups his gesture use.

Only have girls but they were all different...

#1 = walked 13 months, fluent long complicated sentences crystal clear speech by 16 months (very unusual!)
#2 = walked 14 months, had speech delay due to glue ear
#3 = couldn't sit unaided until 11 months, can't remember when she walked, earlyish talker so fluent sentances by about 2
#4 = walked at 17 months, severe speech delay was very difficult to understand anything she said until she had turned 4 and had treatment for auditory processing issues and speech therapy.

so same family, very different results!!!

Ds didn't walk til 17 months but was talking from 12 months. He still has advanced speech now at 3.

DD2 walked at 12 months but now at 19 months is only starting to say words, she is getting better every day though.

DD1 walked at 12/13m and had single words at around 18m but took until nearer 3 to start speaking in sentences.

DD2 walked at 10 months and it is awful to admit that I can't remember when she started talking - she's only 2.5 poor thing - but she's been stringing words together since around 18m and now speaks in sentences.

DD first talked at 18 months (she's deaf so there was a delay), She was signing at 8 months though, walked at 13 months.
DS talked at 9 months and walked at 12/13 months. He's always had an excellent vocabulary and was putting 3/4 words together by 12 months - I think this is because of the focus on developing DD's spoken language, rather than him being some sort of genius.

Oh I'm glad I found this thread as I have been really worrying about DS speach.

He walked at 10mo, is 17mo now and can say, "yeah" and that's about it. I need to stop asking him yes/ no questions I think!

The response to this has been great. My son is 14 months so from the answers given I feel better about the fact he isn't walking or talking yet. He's close to doing both but other children I know are walking. I know they all do it in there own time so I shall try not to worry Smile

DS will be 12 month in 1 weeks time. Says Mama, Daddy, hiya, cat and has said kick (future ballet dancer) and hat in context but doesn't use them regularly. Also those daft not-words like uh oh when being naughty, ah ah when about to be naughty and mmm when hungry.

He's been cruising for a few months but seems quite a way off actually walking.

DS1: Walked at 11 months. Talked a few words at 15 months, sentences by 23 months.

DS2: 19 months now and still not walking Sad crawling everywhere and pulling up and cruising round furniture (he's very frustrated about it!) He's been diagnosed with hypermobility so has got some orthopedic boots and has physiotherapy once a week. Talked at 14 months, few words. Has about 40 words now at 19 months.

DS1 - walked a week before his first birthday. Talked in sentences by 2, but very few words by 18 months.

DS2 - walked a week before his birthday. Around 5/6 words at 14 months. So far, very similar to DS1. Although I can already tell he has a very different personality.

Agree that walking without talking is dangerous. I get A LOT of frustrated shouting.
