Breastfed 12m old & water...

She's not really interested unless she's tipping it on herself... I'm trying to get her drinking a bit more water. She is still breastfed. Eat solids well, but still depends lots on my milk around her foods. (I know she's still small!)

I'm meant to be going to a concert, and I am also in business start up so would be nice to know that she's taking other fluids other than my milk.

And as for milk, she isn't enjoying a bottle or cup of milk either when dp has her when im not there

DD1 was like this, not really interested in drinking water. She would have small amounts of EBM in a cup but really not much. Even at 5 she drinks a lot less than her little sister. but, shen she was at nursery she did drink plenty.

If she is enthusiastic about eating then make sure when you're not around your DP gives her watery foods like melon or jelly or cucumber. If she is having plenty of fruit and veg she won't end up dehydrated.

And remeber, if she wasn't having any liquid overnight you wouldn't worry at all, in fact you might even be boasting about it, so try not to worry too much if she doesn't have any for a few hours during the day.

Dd2 didn't start drinking from a cup until well over a year old and only drank breast milk. She had a lot of fun tipping them out and making splashy puddles though. Now she is clear when she wants milk or water although will sometimes compromise! She's now 22months old.

Mine was like that - started drinking more water at about 15mths. Even at nursery (3 days a week) he barely drank, just made up for it when I was around.

Dd1 was the same, then we showed her a straw! She drinks far more water from a cup with a straw, she can even sometimes be persuaded to drink milk that way too. Sorry if you've already tried it.

Ds was much the same - he's 23 months now and its only in the last month or so that he's really started to drink and enjoy anything other than breastmilk. He still prefers bm over anything else but does now ask for other drinks throughout the day. I put this down to a couple of things..

  1. I finally found a cup he liked. Tried every cup going unt I found one he got on with.
  2. Introduced him to a straw, drinks far more through a straw.
  3. Gave up on water. Tbh it boring and I wouldn't want to drink plain water all the time either. He now has sugar free squash, diluted fruit juice.
  4. Introduced innocent smoothie cartons. Will happily glug one of those straight down.
  5. He's also way more active, think that that real thirst after you've been running around intensifies as they get bigger and run around more. Your little one will prob just up intake of fluids as he gets bigger anyway.

Good luck!

Straw bottle here too...or in no spill bottle as sippy cups is playtime with water!!!
Took ds a while figure out how to suck up water thru the straw... He learnt by slurping up spaghetti!! Found the sippy cups flow too fast so puts them off a bit..
