Worried about the 2 year check

I've called the hv team today enquiring about my son's 2 year check. He is almost 2.5 and it turns out that we should have had a letter inviting us to make this appointment but we must he been missed off the list. He never had a 1yr check - I expected to be contacted, never was and didn't chase it up as I had no concerns. Now I'm worried that I should have chased it up and that the fact he missed this check could be a problem? What are they likely to check for at 1 and 2 years? I have read that 2.5yr olds should be able to say simple nursery rhymes and he doesn't though he has a lot of words and speaks in simple sentences. Just seem to be panicking a bit and not sure why!

Speaking in simple sentences is just fine.

His knowledge of nursery rhymes will depend on his experience. Don't worry - the HV will see that you and he are doing fine.

Don't worry! They weigh them, ask some questions about speech etc etc. unless you've got major concerns it's just a formality.

don't worry at all...my dd is now 2.5 and was saying about 5 words at her 2yr review and they didn't think it was a problem.

she was assessed 2 weeks ago as her speech hasn't improved as much as i thought it would....again all within the normal range and no speech therapy needed! the last week the little minx is coming out with all sorts including "mum lets go out and enjoy the sunshine" - seriously this is from a child who 3-4 weeks only learnt how to say mum!!!

your little one will be just fine x
