DD is 91cm tall (almost 36 inches)
She weighs 15kg. Turned 2 last week.
Everyone she meets comments on her size. She was born 10.4 pound (4.6kg) and has always been in 98th centile.
DH and i are both tall (i'm 5'11 he is 6'2)
I am starting to get really pissed off with people making a big deal of her height. I know they mean it in a 'wow she'll be a supermodel' way but I just feel it is rude to and I worry about her feeling different. I don't go around commenting on how short other people's kids are because i think it has sod all to do with them as a person. angry

If you look at the centiles 98th percentile at 20 is 176cm. That's 5'91/2. Hardly enormous. Please get a grip and don't give her a complex if she turns out to be tall. I'm 98th for height according to that and for me its normal.

Some of these threads make me wonder if you are allowed to comment on children at all hmm

My daughter is 26 months is 16.6kg and 98cms!! She's always been between top centiles and has occasionally gone over it. She was born at 9lb 2 and I'm 5ft9 and her dad is 6ft5 smile

I think dd is a giant. She'll be 3 next week and is 99cms. Can't find her red book atm, where does that place her on the centiles? She's 28lbs.

MoelFammau Mon 06-May-13 13:50:48

Yes I think that's the thing. It's not so much the height of your child, it's the height of the other children in your circle. Comparisons seem to be drawn between kids and have nothing to do with centiles!

hazey - its comforting to hear of others in the same boat, people seem really shocked when he behaves like a 3 year old as thet had assumed he was much younger. We tend to have larger kids in this family so he is the same size as his 1 year old cousins!

hazeyjane Mon 06-May-13 05:42:14

moelfammu, your dd is just under the 50th centile, so average - maybe she just looks petite!

yoube - your ds is on the same centile as my ds. Everyone is shocked when I say how old he is.

MoelFammau Mon 06-May-13 03:51:57

Well, in our circle she's small, for sure. Titch was maybe a bit harsh but she was still wearing 9-12mo babygrows until 20mo, when she had a little growth spurt and now wears 18mo. I'm 5'8 and DH is 6'2, so it's a bit surprising to people, I think.

CrazyAlien06 Sun 05-May-13 23:22:11

DD is 19 months and 91cm..... I'm 5ft 10" and Dad is 6ft 4"
I do get slightly peeved at people keep commenting about her being tall but I just reply " well she wasnt going to be short was she?! Look at the height of her parents!"

youbethemummylion Sun 05-May-13 23:15:05

DS2 is 3 and is 86cm so I dont think 84cm at 2 is a titch, gave up checking the growth charts when he just kept plummeting downwards so maybe wrong.

MoelFammau Sun 05-May-13 23:07:39

DD is 2 tomorrow and is 84cm. Titch.

My DS will be 2 in a week. I measured dis height about two months ago and he was 88cm and I think he's about 12.5kg. I think he's pretty much on the 50th centile for both height and weight, but people still comment on how tall he is hmm..

resipsa Fri 03-May-13 14:19:56

Ha! Yup, we get the "could you just reach that for me" when shopping too!

My DD is a couple of days past 22month and is 92cm and weighs 13.2kgs. He's pretty much following the same lines as his elder sister. She is the youngest in her yr at school (she's a 31/8 birthday) and she is the tallest girl by some margin (she is 5.8 yrs and is 124cm tall and wears 7-8 trousers (although they have to have adjustable waists as she is all leg).

One month off her third birthday my daughter is exactly 1m tall and weighs 15.2kg (3'6 and 33.5lb). Her Dad is 6'6 though and I'm 5'11 so not unexpected. When we visit my family in Ireland people comment on her height all the time, it wears thin, but at home in Holland nobody says a word, it's not at all unusual.

ds is 2.3. heis 16.6kg, 96cm and wears 7.5h shoes. dh is 6ft 3 tho and im also tall. he went to hospital on Mon (whole other thread) and none of the medical professionals could believe he was 2! it's very frustrating and I'm sick of hearing 'he's so big!'

RugBugs Wed 01-May-13 19:27:07

I'm another who quite likes it when DDs height is commented on by people, I'm 5ft3 and the shortest in my family by some way.
DD is 2.5 and has been in 91st centile for height since she hit a year (she started off in 12th), she's quite slim too with a fine bone structure (another gene she didn't get from me!) which makes her appear taller and older.
She can also run bloody fast, which is always good.

resipsa Wed 01-May-13 19:27:03

Oh, we've started on the feet? DD (27 months, 96 cms and 16.5kgs) is in size 8.5H - only two pairs in the shop were in her size and one pair was obviously meant for school sad. Luckily, the other pair was pink with fairies! DH has size 15 (yes, UK not US) feet so it was inevitable...

Choccywoccydodah Wed 01-May-13 18:53:59

Oh, ds is is 20 months btw smile

Choccywoccydodah Wed 01-May-13 18:52:32

My ds is 90cm tall and 14.1kgs. He was 8/13 born, always on the 98th too, and people assume he's 3ish.
I love him being bigger, the only thing that I don't like is that because everyone thinks he's older, they think he's behind as he's not talking properly yet!
Hoping he'll be a rugger player grin

Coffee1Sugar Wed 01-May-13 18:46:13

Dd is 2.11 97cms and size 7 feet and was a very average 8lb 3oz at birth and yet EVERYONE comments about how talk she is

gourd Wed 01-May-13 13:42:34

Random people comment on my child's haIr colour every time we go out of the house. Although they mean well, her hair colour is not the most important thing about her of course, and I suspect they are only trying to make conversation really. Unfortunately, appearance is what most people notice first though and often seem to feel free to comment on, whether you like it or not. I think all you can do is try to instill in your child the sense that what is inside is a lot more important, and in fact THE most important thing about her/him. Build their confidence about themselves in other areas by praising their strengths. That's all any parent can do really.

MoominsYonisAreScary Wed 01-May-13 11:33:13

Ds3 2.1 I have no idea how much he weighs or his height but last time they checked him he was off the chart!

He's in age 4 clothes and 9.5 shoes. He was my smallest baby at 8 weeks early and 4lb 4. Ds1 was the biggest at 11lb 2 and is 6.4 and still growing now (he's 18)

Ds4 is 12 weeks and I don't think he will be in his 3-6 month clothes for much longer.

hazeyjane Wed 01-May-13 10:49:01

He also has size 4 feet!!
