Potty training: How long to stay home?

I realise that this is one of those 'how-long-is-a-piece-of-string' questions but...

I've just started PT my DD (2.3 years) she pushed us into it by refusing to wear her nappy and peeing all over the house. We're on day two and things are going well, we've had as many pees in the potty as on the floor! However, I have a few questions

1. In terms of being aware of when she needs to go, I have observed that she only realises once she's started peeing then she 'holds' and rushes to her potty. So she is not aware of the indicators before the pee comes out -Normal? How do I teach her the signs that you might need to pee?
   
   
2. How long should we stay home for? This is my second day. She is mostly naked (and thrilled about this) but I can't see her getting the hang of things in a week.
   
   
3. Also I'm trying to use nappies for nap times (yet another thing she is resisting). Is this right?
   
   I do not like this, no I do not like this one little bit....

1. DS2 was the same. On the first day, he just wee-ed huge puddles, looked at it as if to say "what on earth is that?" Second day, he wee-ed less, before shouting "wee wee" at the top of his voice (his trousers were wet, but not enough to wet the floor). Third day, he dribbled in his pants (not even through to trousers). Thereon, he was mostly dry, but with occasional accidents. He was 2.10 though, so a bit older when we started.
   
   So basically, I think he learnt to realise earlier and earlier he needed to go.
   
   
2. I stayed home for 5 days, but as I was say, both DS1 and DS 2 were nearing 3, so older than your DD. In my experience, the accidents stop from being full on puddles, to being half dribbles (they stop mid-stream).
   
   
3. I continued using nappies (or pull ups) for nap times, until he woke up dry consistently. DS1 was still in night time pull ups until 4. DS2 is still in night time pull ups at just turned 3. I am one of those 'wait until they wake up dry for a week before going without a pull up.

I would have waited. I was in no rush....it's all her. What with the nudity and peeing!

It's strange because is most other respects I think I'm quite a calm-child-led parent but with regards to this milestone I want the 24 hours and we're done approach.

So bored being at home. How to entertain myself and DD.

So far we've painted, played, read books in bed (naked) and modeled breastfeeding on her toy bunnies. Fun, fun, fun

I'm on day two too. I forgot to factor in the dog wanting to mark his place when there's a puddle

Yesterday we had 50:50 success:accident rate. Today we're not doing as well. She is just two but was resisting nappies and going on the potty fully clothed etc.

I will be keeping her in nappies at bed time until she is absolutely dry every morning (she co-sleeps!)

I'm going to stay in until the weekend. She's naked today but tomorrow will pop trousers on her as I have heard this can prompt them to not wet themselves iyswim

I know whilst in the thick of it, I thought, is this ever going to happen, it's taking ages! But in hindsight, it was just a few days.

They have to learn to hold it in, use muscles they may never have used before and then to realise the sensation as they're just about to wee.

I trained dd1 at 2.3..... we stayed in for four days. On day 5 we ventured to the park (strauight after she had done a wee) and all was fine. By day 7 she was dry and clean and we went out as normal. It did help that weatehr was good so we played in the garden a lot.

Teh first few days DD! also did what your dd did ie doinga bit then holding in the rest. But again, by day 7 she had elarnt teh feeling of needing to go and didnt let teh forst bit out - it is such a enw thing for them to get used to, but they do get used to teh sensatiosn and feelings from tehir body incredibly quickly if they are ready.

Also fien to leave in naps for naptime etc.... my dd quickly had dry nappies afetr naptime but is now 3.2 and no signs of her being ready at night.

About to start training dd2, who is almost 2 but in the process of training herself...this trhead has brought itall back to me....

This is good. It's like the 'Pee Support Post'.

We did go out today and I'm afraid I put her in nappy. We were going to a house viewing and I couldn't risk her peeing over a vendors floor (they'd probably up the asking price).

She was dry when we got back and we took the nappy straight off. I'm going to try and get her a bit more clothed tomorrow (she just loves the nakey) and might try a walk to the park.

We have got a way to go but I think if she gets the idea of going out without her nappy it might help....maybe...

I must say I'm close to giving up, mostly because I want to get out and about again.
