Dd is 34 months and just measured her at 95cm. Sick of people saying "oh isn't she tall" all the time. Is she really that tall?!

JollyYellowGiant Mon 18-Mar-13 18:47:37

I shall measure mine tomorrow and let you know. Don't think he's been measured since may.

rumbelina Mon 18-Mar-13 18:49:18

Ds is, um, 28 months and 91cm. He is taller than his same age friends. It doesn't bother me when people say he's tall - its not an insult or a compliment, its just an observation.

OhMyNoReally Mon 18-Mar-13 18:51:59

My toddler 33 months is above the 98th centile is in a size 9 shoe and a year 3 trouser and year 4-5 tops. People ask if he's starting school or if he and 4yr old ds are twins.

Makes me very annoyed, especially when we're waiting for speech and language therapy as he hasn't added any new words since he was about 18 months.

Check your dds centiles that should give you an idea. smile

According to DS's red book, 95cm would be 50th centile for a 34mo boy. But I don't have the girl charts.

hazeyjane Mon 18-Mar-13 18:55:02

Looking in dcs red books, 95 cm at 34 months looks to be about 75th centile.

So quite tall.

Mind you, we are a family of shortarses -

Dd1 was 89cm (9th centile)
dd2 was 88cm (just under 9th centile)
ds is 32 months and 85 cm (0.4th centile)

Lifesagame Mon 18-Mar-13 18:57:04

DS2 is also 28 months and is around 92cm. He is quite noticeably tall when we go to playgroups etc but so was his elder brother. Doesn't bother me if people comment but I'm sure it will in 10 years time when I'm the family shortie and they're both towering over me! grin

PeppaFuckingPig Mon 18-Mar-13 18:58:47

My DD turned 2 this month.
When she was measured by the health visitor at 22 months old she was 92cms.

SolomanDaisy Mon 18-Mar-13 19:00:55

Mine is 20 months and 91cm. He looks pretty tall compared to other children.

SingSongMummy Mon 18-Mar-13 19:01:11

DD1 is 3.2 [38 months] and is 105cm and had been since she was 3. I'm used to everyone assuming she is 4 or 5 now. I have to blame DP who is 6ft 7, so both DD's are a bit doomed!

dimdommilpot Mon 18-Mar-13 20:16:45

Dd is now 28 month and was last measured at 25 month, she was 87cm. She gets comments all the time about how tall she is, im not sure why but it drives me bonkers! Im fed up of saying 'shes only 2' when people expect more from her! And my friends saying 'she looks about 5' when they see a picture of her. She has really long hair and is very slim which probably makes her look older and taller but for some reason it really makes me mad that people feel the need to pass comment.

hazeyjane Mon 18-Mar-13 21:20:34

It maybe because I am a short person (who would love to be taller), but I always feel as though I am paying a complement when I say that a child is tall for their age. However, it would seem really rude, if someone said, 'goodness, isn't he short!' (And let's face it, on the 0.4th centile, my ds is really, really short!) I will rethink the next time I am looking for something nice to say about someone's child!

Helspopje Mon 18-Mar-13 21:24:22

96cm at 2.5yrs (female child)
was 59.5cm at birth and i'm >99th centile and dad between 95th and 99th so not too surprising

not sure I'd think it a bonus to be 'tall' though as everyone will think they are older than they are and therefore have higher expectations of abilities and behaviours

DD is about 95cm at 30 months. That is 91st centile. People who deal with children a lot tend to comment on her height and assume that she is 3. She is a couple of inches taller than most of her peers, though we know a few tall boys.

BeepBeepBeep Mon 18-Mar-13 23:05:40

DD is 39 months and she was 102cm when I measured her a month or two ago. She is the tallest in her pre-school class bar one other girl.

Coffee1Sugar Tue 19-Mar-13 19:43:08

Actually, remeasured dd more accurately this time and it reads 97cm which according to the red book places her at about 80th centile. At birth and for two years she was always between 91-98th centiles which was a bit surprising as her dad and I are average joes for height. Maybe dd's height has plateaued? hmm She weighs 27lbs at 34 months.

hazeyjane Tue 19-Mar-13 19:56:37

Yes, I realise that it means that people probably expect more from a child that is actually a lot younger than they look. I suppose I was just coming at it from the point of view of someone who is short, and would like to be a bit taller!

MummyPig24 Tue 19-Mar-13 20:05:36

Dd turned 3 on Saturday and I think she is around 85cm. Ds is 5 and 105cm. My children are shorties!

Sirzy Tue 19-Mar-13 20:07:34

DS is 94 cm at 40 months. He has very short legs (still in 18 - 24 bottoms) and a just below average torso (2 - 3 tops)

bobsnotabuilder Tue 19-Mar-13 20:09:30

28 months and 105cm (boy).

Zatopek Tue 19-Mar-13 20:09:40

I'm afraid I do make the odd comment and say "isn't he tall" when I see a tall 2 yr old but that's only because mine is miniscule and I'm always amazed by the height difference. I hope I'm not offending anyone. I'm not at all offended when people say "isn't she small"- she is!

BreasticlesNTesticles Tue 19-Mar-13 20:11:20

DD1 is 3.6 and 110cm, DD2 is 22 months and around 95cm. They are giants.

Bunbaker Tue 19-Mar-13 20:12:52

DD was that height at that age. I don't think it was tall. She is 12 now and 5'1" and smaller than most of her classmates.

OH's family think she is tall but they are all vertically challenged.

HopingItllBeOK Tue 19-Mar-13 20:23:09

coffee if your DD is tall, my DS must be a giant as he's 94cm at 18 months. I hate to think what sort of comments I would get from the folk who blurt out how tall your DD is wink

I have heard that as a rough guide, the height your child is on their second birthday is half what their adult height will be. In that case, I'm hoping DS doesn't grow anymore in the next 6 months as he's already on course to match his Dad's 6'2" and anymore would see him stuck for a career, with only the Harlem Globetrotters or LurchsRus to take him on smile

breatheslowly Tue 19-Mar-13 20:35:01

When I was looking at DD's height centile I found these and when you click on the growth charts for boys and girls it has a BMI centile graph where you look at where your child's height and weight join. DD appears to be 50th centile for BMI as her height is 91st and her weight 75th. That makes sense to me as she is neither thin nor fat looking. I hadn't seen this before.
