Just failed my driving test

I don't know exactly why I am posting in here, maybe just for some support.
I had my first driving test today and failed (three majors). It's totally knocked my confidence and I've spent most of the morning crying about it. I had a bad lesson before hand and so felt a bit more nervous at the beginning. My instructor offered me no real words of support before my test which made me feel well quite shit actually. It all went down hill from there really and I'm so upset.
Some kind words of support would be greatly appreciated as I know I can do it!

Oh bad luck. Spend today feeling cross and then get back out there. Do you have a partner or friend who can take you out for practice drives between lessons? You will be fine - a lot of people don't pass first time. Brew

I managed to speed up towards a traffic light that was changing to amber resulting in the examiner putting the brakes on for me on my first test! On my second one I mounted the kerb doing a reverse round the corner! I then gave up driving lessons for about 7 years and when I took them up again I passed first time by the skin of my teeth (if I had had 2 more minors I would have failed).#

I used to do well on lessons and then just fall apart at the exams. Don't do what I did and get back out there and try again. When I went back everything was much more expensive and they had brought in the theory test by then too.

Look at what your faults were and work to improve them. Think of it as a trial run and at least you will know what to expect the next time. Good luck.

Sorry you're feeling so bad.

I failed three times before passing 4th time. It is so soul destroying when you fail.

Put in for it again, don't tell anyone though as it will put pressure on you.

If you're not happy with your driving instructor then perhaps change them?

I changed driving instructors after I failed my first test. Find someone who fills you with confidence, reapply and pass it second time round! Good luck.

I went through 3 instructors (first one put me back months in my therapy sessions but thats another story) and really lacked confidence. It took me 3 goes to finally pass, which by the sounds of things is about average.

You will do it, try not to let it knock you too much. If your instructor wasn't that great before hand maybe it is worth looking at changing.

Thanks peeps for your support. I know I've just got to pick myself back up and get out there again. Unfortunately my partner has a company car which I can only use once I've passed my test (typical).
I think my driving instructor was trying to don the cap of a test instructor beforehand so I was used to it (he's normally very chatty). But some words of encouragement wouldn't have gone amiss. Ill have to speak to him and let him know that approach does not work with me.
Better luck next time! Ill pass if it kills me lol x

I remember that feeling well. My first driving test was a disaster and I was so upset to fail.

You'll pick yourself up, hope you feel better soon and good luck for next time.

I've failed twice too so know how you feel. if you are not happy with your instructor maybe change them. mine wasn't working too well for me but i think i kept with him for too long and ended up wasting a lot of time and money. thinking of just going for an intensive course now you can get some with a pass guarentee as in if you fail they let you resit for free - so gonna try that

It is really annoying isnt it, especially when you have a car sat there. i have my dh's sat on the drive all day as he doesnt need it to go to work and it would come in really handy for me, yet cos i keep failing im still there struggling with double buggy on the public transport and paying out for taxis.

we will get there eventually!! good luck for next time

the instructor being unsupportive wouldn't have helped at all! Angry

i had a lesson before my first test, and i think it was a bad plan, because i think ti made my brain tired and made me lose concentration.

I know that once you're driving for real, you don't get the excuse of losing concentration, but they also say don't drive tired, so it does make sense to be fresh of mind before your test.

It's quite uncommon to pass first time, so please don't worry! Also, it's usually the case that you're a perfectly competent driver, but the situation of being in an 'exam' makes you make mistakes that you usually would never do. Change instructors if you can to someone who is supportive, practice in between lessons if you have the opportunity, and take the test again.

Thanks for all your supportive messages. Better luck next time, I just wish you didn't feel so crap afterwards. X
