Are jumperoos (or similar) worth the expense?

My 4 month old seems to be getting a bit bored of the play gym that we have, and doesn't particularly like being in his bouncy chair for very long. People have mentioned the jumperoo to me but I am put off by the price. However I think my ds might like it!

Is it worth the price tag? Is there something similar that would do or even be better?

Jumperoo 's are bloody brilliant! Both my dd's loved it. They are basically indestructible so you could def get a second hand one and it would last. The seat comes off and is washable as well so you wouldn't have to worry about it not being clean.

The Jumperoo is great but it was beyond my rice tag, when I wanted one they were still going for about £60 on ebay. I got a Fisher Price Hop n Pop and a Learn & Groove station from ebay for £15 each and they keep Ds entertained. I got the Hop n Pop at about 4 months and the Learn & Groove about a month later.

We have this walk around and it has been an absolute lifesaver. We got it for slightly less in the sale, but looking at the site its less than the jumperoo actually. DD has loved it since about 4 months, and at about 7 months we unlocked it so she could move around and she still shows no signs of being bored by it at all. In fact she probably spends to long in it, but she just adores it. Personally I prefer it to a jumperoo because it seems to have a longer life, as I don't think jumperoos can later be made to move around.

Also our door bouncer has had a ridiculous amount of us. We put it up in the kitchen doorway and again she would happily bounce away in it for the time it took us to do the washing up or prepare a meal. You can get them really quite cheap.

I can't imagine they'd be worth it. How does the baby learn to move around etc?

Both of mine lasted a few weeks max under a playgym. After that, I put them on their fronts so they could reach and grab toys. Then they were sitting by 5/6 months, then crawling by 6-7 months.

Yes ds1 spent ages in it and loved it, same with ds2.
I bought it off a mnetter then sold it on after the dcs had finished with it

The seat spins 360° from the start. They bounce turn round and pull stuff and press bits and generally have an absolute whale of a time while you get on with whatever. We sold ours for £45 and regret it now as DC2 is due in a few weeks. I will be getting another. its worth every penny.

Iggly, because they aren't in them all the time. The walking ones are great for when they want to start getting around.

I will admit I'm a bit because acquaintances of mine stuck their babies in them in front of the tv.

The thing is mine didn't like staying still for long so I can't imagine using one. I also read they were not great for hips (a bit like certain baby carriers aren't)? I don't know if that's just made up though.

Yes! I bought jumperoo for £40 on eBay for ds. Dd used it 2 yrs later then I sold it for £42, oh and friends ds had it in between. Bargain! Defo worth the money they are fab

I suppose I would be a bit at that too. My son was entertained enough without needing to look at a screen. He just laughed the whole time.

Definitely a best buy. I bought one second hand and then sold it on for the same price when I was done with it.

I've heard they're not stunning for hips, so I do worry that DD sometimes spends a bit too long in it but she does love it so much.

As for the telly, I will admit that for the few weeks where DD hated being on the floor because she wanted to move and couldn't, and wouldn't sleep unless she was being held or in her pushchair, and tipped herself out of her bumbo seat, the walker in front of the Tweenies for 5 minutes was the only way I could get a shower...

Thanks for all the quick replies! I must admit I do have a worry along the lines if Iggly about hindering his physical development. Obviously I wouldn't leave him in it all day in front of the tv! I was thinking of it for when I need to cook or do a bit of housework - I guess this is what most people use it for?

My kids hips are fine. But they were never left in it for ages can imagine it could be uncomfortable if left for hours in one

my ds adored it, dd not so much. i sold it for the same i paid for it!! Check ebay or gumtree for a second hand one.

regarding baby walkers, google 'baby walker safety'. I felt much more comfortable leaving DS in something static but I am a bit paranoid about babywalkers!

I would just get a walker! I know they get a bad press but both my girls have loved them. My nine month old follows me around constantly and i am not overly worried if she walks early, although she is cruising and crawling. My three year old was in a walker at four months and did walk at nine.
