For last few weeks bf baby has been waking very hr for a feed, he is on solid food and although he has breakfast , lunch n tea is still needing so many feeds at night, he has no teeth through yet , I'm so tired , I'm sure this cannot be the norm ? I don't know what to do and need some sleep ! Previously to this sleep pattern he was only waking 3 to 4 times , I'm not sure why now this has deteriorated so badly, can any one help please

I would give him some formula last thing at night. Although Breast is (obviously) Best, you need your sleep and one bottle of formula a day won't hurt.

Hi. My son was like this and didn't sleep through the night until he was three well over 1.

However, with my daughter I decided to stop worrying and just do whatever gave us the both the least stressful night time, so if she woke up I just brought her into bed with me.

This really turned out to be the magic night time solution for me, and I co-slept with my third from day one.
The children are now 8, 7 and 5 and are all in their own beds all night (and have been for years) with no fuss.

They just grew out of the baby stage, which is the time when they need more physical reassurance and comfort.
I don't think your dc will be waking for hunger, it is more likely to be for comfort.

Hi thanks , to be honest I have always co slept with him , as found bf a lot easier whilst he was in bed with me , I had wondered whether it was me causing him to wake up and was considering trying to get him into his cot - whether this would help , with his room being on a dofferent level to ours , I'm not sure but getting to stage where I will try any thing , perhaps will try a bottle last thing at night, thank you

how about a bit of supper like some baby rice just before bed?

Are you sure it's a hunger issue? Have you considered sleep training? Do you put your dc to bed already asleep or awake so he falls asleep on his own?

Does it seem like he's waking upset/in pain e.g. it could be teeth starting to come through, causing him pain and waking him? If so, you could try giving some Calpol to see if that helps. If he's not upset when he wakes then it might not be so easily solved. Babies do tend to go through different phases where they wake up very frequently, and then they just grow out of it again and start sleeping better. I know that's not much consolation when you're exhausted though - my DD is currently waking every hour and it's an absolute killer.

You could try looking at No Cry Sleep Solution for some tips, I found it really helped with DD1 breaking the feeding-to-sleep association. Also, make sure your taking every and any opportunity to catch up on some sleep - can you go to bed ridiculously early for a few nights e.g. as soon as your baby's gone down, or get some extra naps at the weekend?

Hi thanks again for the tips , I'm wondering if it is some of his first pegs coming through as he is crying when he wakes, have tried him with a little formula but it's hard as he has been ebf do does not welcome the bottle, have given a small dose of carpol to see if this helps a little , will have a look at the no cry sleep solution too, fingers crossed we will have a little more sleep tonight ! Thank you

for what it's worth formula won't make any differences, as research had shown that it doesn't help them sleep longer. unless you get some one else to give it so you can stay in bed.
