Sudden waking up through the night at 9 months

My DD hit 9 months and suddenly started a major sleep regression.

Before, she was sleeping for 10 - 11 hours in her cot bed in her own room. I was still BFing her to sleep then my husband would carry her to the cot bed so she'd stir a little but would go straight back to sleep.

Now, I am having to co-sleep as she is up every 2 hours. We still get her to bed at 8ish, but she wakes again approx. every 2 hours starting from 10pm. I try to resettle her with a cuddle, but in the early hours I end up feeding her back down.

This has been going on now for over 2 weeks and I'm exhausted! Initially I thought she was teething as she did cut a top tooth, but that has eased now. She also seems to have signs of separation anxiety. I'm not sure what is causing it. She used to be able to resettle easily during the night and now she is crying and rubbing her face each time she wakes. I'm about to go back to work in a month and not sure how I'm going to deal with that unless we get her sleep back on track.

During the day she seems fine, her usual happy self. During week 1 when she was also teething she was off her solids a bit, but now is eating fine again and not crying much during the day.

Any ideas on what has caused the sudden regression and how to deal with it?

Hi Jiltedjohnsjulie. Firstly apologies for the late response, have had some family drama that kept me off line.
Secondly this does describe perfectly what my daughter is going through. On and off teething and she is on the brink of crawling, she is just trying to synch up the legs and arms. plus she is also pulling up to standing.
In addition to the broken sleep she has been clingy and fussy over food.
Makes a lot of sense and good to know we're not alone! DH has volunteered to take half the night shift too so result ;-)

Following on from the above, the issue we have to consider now is how to get her back to sleep during the night. At the moment we hold and rock her down if before 11. After that I've been co-sleeping and bfing her down as half asleep myself. not sure she needs the food though and could be why she doesnt eat much bfast.

Before the regression she was struggling to self settle. She does it occasionally but generally has a morning nap in her pushchair, her pm nap after a feed and at night I was feeding her to sleep then DH would carry her to her bed and she would stir slightly but stay down for 10 - 11 hrs.

We were about to start sleep training and cutting out bfing as I return to work soon. We've cut out the 2 daytime feeds but not sure now how to progress as what was an early morning and a bedtime feed has become an alnighter.
