my DS 2.3 months used to have a bath at about 6.15 then chill out time and in bed at 7 however for the past 2 weeks he has been asking to go to bed earlier and earlier, tonight he was in bed at 5.55. is this a normal bed time?

I would thin so, if he's had a busy day. We were on holiday late week and DD who is 23 mo went to bed one evening at 1730, she'd been running round all day and had not napped. Also, if they have a bit if a cold, I'd imagine that would make them want to snooze, I know it does me!

Normally for us it's DD asleep by between 1830 and 1900 after bath, cuddles and books.

That early would be my dream.

We put DS, 2.1, to bed at 8pm (he is very reluctant) and then he mucks around till 9pm-9:15 and is up again at around 6:30ish (normally after attempting to get up at 5pm and being coaxed back to bed). If I put him to bed at 7pm, he just mucks around for two hours rather than one....

Up at 5am obviously....not 5pm, which wouldn't be so brutal.

DD1 is 2 years 10 months and usually goes to bed 7pm. She wakes up 6.30am-7am, with no nap. She's actually quite irritable by 5.30ish, but reluctant to put her to bed earlier as she'll get up earlier.

When she does have an hour nap, she won't go to sleep until about 8.30pm!

Yes, 5:55 would be a dream. DD is 1 and goes to bed at 7, asleep by 8 after story, bath, bottle and much patience and coaxing on my part. I'm hoping she'll go to bed more readily once she can walk and thus tire herself out.

23mo DS has his bath somewhere between 6.30 and 7.00, usually asleep by 7.30. Average getting up time is 7am.

Whether he stays asleep all night or not is a totally different story...

16mo - Bath at 19.15, boobie 19.30, followed by a book and asleep by 19.50/20.00. Awake a 06.30 but has 90-120 minute nap at lunchtime.

Yes, some children do need to go to bed that early.

Does he nap? If he doesn't, he'll definitely need a really early bedtime.

2.8 y.o. DS goes to bed between 7 and 8.30 pm on non-nap days, depending on how tired he is. When he naps (30 mins) he goes to sleep at about 10pm. But he's always needed a lot less sleep than the average.

Dd 2 (just!) goes to bed at 7 usually, as in is asleep by then, ds (5) is the same. They both get up between 6 and 7 but usually closer to 6 and occasionally earlier. Dd still sleeps for 1-2 hours at about 11am though.

angeldog - he has just started to refuse naps, i thought it might be related but wanted to check
i guess im lucky with him as once he goes up don't hear a peep from him (except snoring/sleep talking) until 7.30 - 8 am

Dd2, 3.9, has been going at 530 to 545 all week. She's moved up a class at preschool and is snotty, so more tired than usual. Her normal bedtime is about 630 and she's up at 6.

DD is 2.8 and goes to bed about 8.15pm usually asleep by 8.30ish, gets up at 8.30am. Has a nap of about an hour from 1-2 most days but if she doesn't then we put her to bed earlier.

So a sleep of about 12hrs plus a nap Smile

Far too late! Between 830 and 10, usually closer to 10. Wakes up (and wakes the rest of us up) at 6. Without fail. Often doesn't nap. He's 2.10

Ds1 (3.5) was going to bed between 7-7.30 sometimes as late as 8 but he's recently dropped his afternoon nap most days and he was getting exhausted (and very tantrumy) so the last week he's been going to bed between 6-6.30pm and waking between 7-8am and he's much happier generally. Means he doesn't get to see dh during the week (works long hours) but ds1 obviously needs the sleep at the moment.

My DS went to bed at 7pm from the day we got back from hospital until he was about 8 Grin. He had a long afternoon nap (2pm-4.40/5pm ish) until he was nearly 3 !! Can you tell I was very, very strict with bedtimes. If he wanted to go earlier I would let him - a couple of times he would get in from playschool and sleep right through to the next morning. I appreciate I was very fortunate. Smile. He's still a good sleeper, although I do let him go to bed later now that he's at secondary school Grin.

Bed at 8. Wakes between 630 and 730. Sleeps 1-2 hours at lunch time. Going to bed earlier or later makes no difference to waking up time.

19 month DD: Bed at 8, usually asleep by 20 past which means I get some lovely lie-ins. Couldn't cope with an early waker, but that's just me.

Was coming on here to ask a similar question, but interesting to see the range of responses. DD is 19 months and we go to her bedroom for stories at between 7 and 7.15 and she will be asleep between 7.15 and 7.45. Up anywhere between 6 and 7, but we never get her out of her cot until 6.30 and we don't have breakfast until 7.

She has anywhere from a 1 hour sleep to a 2 1/2 hour sleep.

She always sleeps better if there is lots of time outside.
