Jan/Feb 2012 babies. What is yours doing?

Thought it would be nice to share the progress our not so little anymore babies have made and also any little worries we might have. We're plodding along nicely at the moment but it would be nice to hear what other Jan/Feb mums and babies are doing.

My DD was born 31/1/12 and is the LAST of 3 definately
At the moment she's teething, has 2 bottom teeth through and is almost talking (we've kind of got mum, dad, and more). She's a bit lazy at sitting up and doesn't like laying on her tummy so I doubt we'l be crawling anytime soon
My main worries at the moment are about me going back to work after Xmas, finding a childminder and getting her off her midday (BF) feeds it' heart wrenching

Hi. My little bean was born (2 weeks overdue) on the 12th February. She is a big girl, just under 20lb and everyone loves a good comment on how she's big isn't she and much more like in size to a nine month old. I smile and grit my teeth.
She sits up confidently, has been doing so since she was around 6 months, and has now started to pull herself up and cruise along the bath/sofa. Woe betide anyone who lets her grab their fingers, they will be there for hours. She is also a terrible biter, scratcher, pincher and yanker which I don't know what to do about. She has 6 teeth and uses them at will, especially on my boobs :(
I've come on to see what to do about getting her to nap independently of my boobs too. At the moment she won't sleep really without them, and wakes up crying until she has one in her mouth. I'm back to work in four weeks and I know granny will have a breakdown if she cries for 8 hours while she's looking after her :(
Oh,and she says dada to any man who comes near her, hehe.

Born on 24/1/12.

Sat up unaided at 5 months, but is only in the last few weeks looking like she's considering crawling. Is at the rocking stage, but hesitates to take the plunge. Pulling up in cot, bath, etc. Favourite word is 'Dad' (not dada): applies it to anything she likes or finds interesting, including my boobs. NO teeth! Where are they?
She's a tiny little thing but has the appetite of a caveman. Has started to make strange zombie-like grunting noises when eating or when she wants something. Loves books.

All DDs so far. Must have been a girly period, there were nearly all girls in hospital when dd was born.

We're on day 4 of no midday feed i might have given in and bf a little yesterday lunchtime and its hard work. She wont take milk from a bottle or beaker so instead goes without then catches up later. All this so i can go back to work! I need to win the lottery.

@ calling everyone/thing dad DD1 did that. Can lead to some embarassing moments!

DD now has a rotten cold so midday feeds have been reinstated :( dont think i'll ever get back to work :)

My DS was born at the start of Feb so this thread is perfect for me (never know whether to post in Jan (where I started) or Feb postnatal clubs!

He has just learned to clap his hands together (and does it when we say 'clap hands'! I'm so proud of him!) and started waving about 1 week ago.

He can crawl and pull himself to standing, today he has started pulling himself to standing and then letting go, arghh!!!! He balances mid air for a split second before landing on his bum and laughing his head off.

He doesn't do any sounds or words though, no mama dada etc. (The occasional 'Eh. Eh! EH!' to get his point accross though.)

He was starting to get more interested in solids but now has a rotten cold too (hope your DD is feeling a bit betternow mumnosGOLD?) so is back on the boob through the day and night. We were trying to cut out some night feeds (he usually wakes 4 or 5 times, I'm a zombie!) by DH soothing him instead of me, but with him having a cold we've suspended this campaign for now!

Hi monkey That was my problem too, although DD was the 31st Jan so we swapped from Feb to Jan. 1 step forward and 2 steps back with the feeds but I'm sure we'll get there in the end. My DD definately has no intention of moving herself off her back, doesn't even like tummy time anymore. You sound like you're having fun with your little man on the move :)

DS was born 5.1.12 - he is pulling up like a good'n and is cruising around. We are in the middle of sleep regression, it is hell. He is just so wired, every time I lay him down, he pings back up to sitting again!! Has his two bottom teeth and three up the top. Loves to say 'dadadadada' and something that sounds worryingly like 'murder'. He has just started to copy when I bang on the table, he thinks it is hilarious. Hoping he will clap soon!!

My dd was born early Jan. She's crawling for the past month and trying to stand up.
Not really talking with words but does a great "vroom vroom" when she's playin with cars. And "Boo" for when she wants the boob.

Still nursing whenever she wants and won't be thinking of weaning her anytime soon.

She has the two bottom teeth.

Yes, yes to the table banging. And insisting on holding the spoon, smearing the porridge everywhere then chucking the spoon on the floor.

Jelyboobs I think at this age, they know who doesn't have the boobs so will be fine until you are spotted again. Like 'out of sight, out of mind'. So I wouldn't worry about trying to get her to nap on her own before then if it doesn't bother you too much.

A question for you all - how soon after first waking of the day does your baby need to nap? And how long is baby's total nap time over the day?

My DD has her first nap about 1hr after waking (always strikes me as odd as she sleeps really well and wakes full of beans. She has 2-3 naps a day, about 3hrs in total due to wake up any minute

That's interesting, mumnos. My DD ideally needs to nap 2hrs at the latest after waking, but unfortunately it's sometimes 3 hours before she goes down again because she goes to a childminder 4 mornings a week. But she'd usually nap for a total of nearly 3 hours per day also and has finally started to sleep pretty well at night :)

Someone on here said babies this age follow a 2,3,4 rule. The numbers are the hr they stay awake between naps. Mine seems more like 1,2,3 or 1 and 3 if she misses a nap. DD will probably change again after Xmas when I go back to work as she'll be going to a CM too. If I ever find one good enough for my little girl :(

DS arrived on 08-02-12. He was off the charts when he was born at 10lb 12oz but he was down to the 50th centile at 6 months. He's a nightmare with his bottles, has terribel reflux and is fussy about who feeds him and where, so on days when I'm in work he won't drink all day, then makes up for it by feeding all night. Fun times I can't wait to get him properly onto solids and off stupid bottles! Though thankfully he's mad about his solids, as long as he's not too tired.

He's got a reputation at creche as the happiest baby they've ever had, he's so good natured and pleasant to be around that everyone adores him. He never complains unless you try to force him to take a bottle!

He has two bottom teeth so far, though he seems to have spent most of his life teething.

He loves to bash things, and will imitate us if we do it (and laugh uproariously!). He doesn't babble at all, but his sister didn't either till 11 months and she shot ahead with talking then.

He does lots of tummy time, whether he likes it or not, because he had a difficult birth which may have resulted in cerebral palsy, so he has physio regularly to make sure he develops on schedule and we're under strict instructions about what regime to follow at home. Despite that he was only on the 25th centile developmentally at his last appointment, but we've been working very hard with him since, so hopefully he'll do better next time.

His nap schedule is non-existent. He naps in his cot but at different times and for different durations each day. We just go along with it, we've given up expecting consistency from him in either eating or sleeping!

Wow someone he was a big boy, I thought I had it hard with DS at 9lbs. Love big babies though , more to cuddle! I didn't know what to do with my tiny DD1 at 6.8 after DS. I do worry a bit after HV mentioned cerebal palsy. DD has only just started sitting properly and doesn't like being on her tummy at all. DS was crawling by now and DD1 was nearly there. What else did they suggest that you do with your DS looks for ideas to pinch.

aw what a nice thread. My dts were born on 2/2/12. They are both boys. dt1 has 2 teeth sits up well rolled over at 6 months and slides around my floor backwards on tummy, he is a big boy last weight at 7 mo was 20lb! dt2 has no teeth has started lots of night wakenings (teeth? both dts have slept quite regularly all night since about 5 mo), gets all around floor backwards sits well and rolled over at 4 mo. Since a tooth has arrived dt1 has gone from 30mins naps to 2 hours am 1 hour pm (approx) dt2 has gone from this to 30mins naps! I always put them down 3 hours after waking to make sure they nap at least partly together so when we're out and about they nap at different times.

Hi! minesapint Sounds like lots of fun at yours! At least with alternate naps you get lots of 1-2-1 time. I always liked the thought of twins though i'm sure the reality is very different :)

Hello , DD just fits in Feb being born on 29/2. She's 7 months today - scary! She's got two teeth (DS didn't have any until 10 months so that was a bit of a surprise!) and is crawling well now. She walks if her hands are held and is trying to pull herself up but isn't strong enough. She eats anything and everything, her favourite is apple and roast chicken, sometimes together. She's extremely clingy and won't let anyone but me hold her most of the time. Sleeping is a nightmare, we're cosleeping as she just won't settle in her cot at the moment. She wakes 4-5 times a night even in our bed and seems to think that 2-4am is playtime. Shattered doesn't cover it!

for the very tired Livia. We're cosleeping here too which was working well untill this week. DD is still full of cold so i'm hoping thats the reason.

mum lots of fun? well thats one to describe it! It is though really and the reality of twins is really lovely (the interaction between them laughing at each other etc) but it is quite hard work sometimes! I do like one on one time but still end up feeling guilty for the sleeping/playing twin . I always, always, always (always) put them in their cots for naps, bed at the same time and if one of them wakes up early then at least theyve had some sleep and then we play!
