3 year old playing with his willy - HELP!

My 3 yr old son discovered his willy about 3 months ago. I've really tried not to make a big deal about it, I never tell him it's dirty etc but have set a rule that he can only play with it at bedtime. I realise all boys (or at least most) play with their willies, but we're getting a bit concerned about how frequently and fervently (!) he plays with it. It isn't just a case of hands down his pants - he properly goes at it every evening (and probably morning - he never has his nappy on when he comes in to our room) and it is quite disturbing to hear him playing with it when I'm in the bedroom next door. Peeking in to his room, he looks like a horny teenager having a really good go!

I am really not a prude and happy for him discover his body without feeling embarassed - but I am starting to worry if this is entirely normal.

Can anyone tell me if their son does/has done this at this age? If other parents confirm that their sons play with theirs the same enthusiastic way - I'll feel sooooooooo much better!!

He hasn't got any older siblings, and am pretty certain he didn't pick this game up from nursery.

Does anyone have any advice???

Completely normal. My three year old, stood in the middle of his bedroom tonight, after his bath, wailing about who knows what and playing with his penis.

I tried very hard not to laugh at him but failed horribly.

Just let him be, telling him it's for private time only. He'll never outgrow it, he'll just get more subtle about it. Grin

My son is 2.5 and it's by far his favourite toy! He's always running round with his hands down his nappy and can't sleep without playing with it. As long as he's not still doing it when he gets to school I'm chilled about it! I try and see it as him getting it all out of the way whilst he's young enough to get away with it! :o)

My son goes through stages when he's fascinated by it (he's 2.5) then he'll forget about it for a bit but soon is back playing with it.

Yep another willy obsessed 3 year old boy here too. i'm afraid it doesn't stop. My 7 yr old DS is also frequently found hands down pj's. And I'm reliably informed it will persist throughout their whole lives, except it becomes more private. DH told me Wink

As soon as my son came out of nappies, it became his favourite toy.

My husband also reliably informs me that never changes.

Thanks so much for your replies! It's good to hear so much willy action going on!

But are they just having a bit of a fondle or do your boys play so vigourously with their willies that it looks like they are masturbating?

They are masturbating. That's why it looks like it.

Dh still sits in front of the tv with his hand down his pants.

I am going to safely guess they don't grow out of it Grin

And so he should be :). My ds infrequently gives a running commentary. 'Ooh look how long I can make it Mummy". You just have to keep reminding him its okay to do in private much like picking bogies.

Primary school teachers often get their yr r's and 1's to put their hands on their heads/ above tables, especially if there is an epidemic of rootling which is disturbing their ability to teach.

No, they don't grow out of it. Dd2 was equally rampant, with no penis to blame. She used to tell me her physio had told her to do her 'exercises'. Mm, yeeeeeees, but... No physio session I ever took her to induced quite such red faced sweatiness.

3 yo DS2 has taken to vigorously "shagging' the carpet. It's the noises that bother me, or when we have visitors...

Strangely, his 7 yo brother takes no interest in his at all. Not sure which one of them I should be more concerned about!

I tell mine his willy is a private thing and he has to go to his room if he wants to play with it and off he goes.

Mine (3.10) plays with it at lot. At least he has stopped yelling 'look mummy big willy' every half hour which is what he did for months!
He still plays with it though. Not sure if it's 'wanking' as such but it's enough to give him an erection!
More recently he's starting pulling it out, making a hissing sound, swinging it round and shouting wee wee on the floor. He's just pretending thank god but still embarrasing!

Oh my god, I have a willy obsessed 23 month old and I've been crying with laughter (and despair) at this thread.....

One mnetter once confessed that her ds was caught using his willy instead of a stylus on his Nintendo ds Grin

We've not had that pleasure although ds once emerged from dd's bedroom with her keying collection imaginatively displayed. She was not best pleased.

Thank you so much ladies! You've made me feel so much better about it. I've been trying to be so cool about it, but just wanted to make sure that was ok. You've reassured me that by just saying it's for private time I'm definitely doing the right thing. We had a wobble tonight - as TheHouseofMirth said - it's the noises which weird me out!!!!

This made me laugh - On a more serious note I think the rule should change from bedtime to being private - if you don't mind me saying :)

My DNephew once told DSis that touching his willy 'made him think happy thoughts'. He was 6 at the time. :)

I was trying to calm down DS1 3.3 after a particularly frenzied jumping around naked session post bath last week by teaching him how to meditate (yeah right). I opened one eye as all was v quiet to see him standing there with his finger completely inside the end of his willy. The constant fiddling and accompanying slightly smelly fingers is gross. And the nocturnal fiddling is a constant source of wet beds as he gets it out in the night and the wee goes everywhere.

Another one signing in with a willy obsessed 3.5 yr old. I am now at the stage where I tell him it's private but it doesn't always stop him.

Ds1 is now 16 and has to frequently be told to take his hands out of his pants although I think he's holding it rather than playing with it IYSWIM. He definitely does his playing in private now!

Dh also watches tv with his hand down his pants.

I don't think they ever grow out of it but they can learn when it's acceptable.

Tonight my son (nearly two) rummaged in his nappy for ages while we lay in bed and then lovingly proclaimed "oh mama" as he sweetly cupped my face....with two smelly hands covered in piss. Sad
