hi
my3yr old dd has just started,in last4or5days patting me on the bum or belly&saying fat bum or fat mummy.
dont know where the hell shes got it from.have asked all the family etc if anyones said it at any time&everyones denying all knowledge.
i tell her off&say dont say that dd its not very nice
my dp says i should just ignore her&she'll stop but she hasnt said it to anyone else just me!
fact is it does hurt me bit though obviously she doesnt mean it or even know what shes saying but its not nice&i wanna know where its come from
how would you react to it?
should i just ignore it?i dont want her to think that thats how you talk to people

I would just say 'that's not a nice thing to say dd1' and then leave it. If it went on for days there might be an 'I asked you not to say that, as it's not very kind to call people fat' but try not to get riled or draw attention to it.

My dd sometimes calls me fat, but it's what she's heard me say. (I'm not, just fatter than she is)

yea thats wat im gonna try&do i think
have a feeling it might have come from my dp as ive caught him patting her nappied bum&saying fat bum but he didnt know id seen it!
i asked him but he hasnt really answered me just told me to ignore it&said it must be someone else!!hmmmm!

Well if she's got it from your DP patting her affectionately on her nappied bottom then she's probably saying it to you to be affectionate as well because she thinks it's a nice thing to say to someone. She can't possibly understand that it's nice when DP says it but that you're hurt when she says it. I wouldn't make an issue of it - just laugh.

Also, you could potty-train her so there aren't any nappies and hence no opportunity for DP to tell her she has a fat bottom!

we have tried potty training octaviapink&have had lots of probs!!!
dd has poo isshoos!!!!
i know she cant understand it&obviously doesnt know what shes saying.
im as much mad@dp for not admitting anything as i am anything else!!
still doesnt account for her saying fat mummy either!!
would like to know where shes got it from!

My 7 year old started prodding my fat belly and saying - 'oooh fatty! you look like these's a baby in there'. Cheeky little bugger.
