How old is he? My DD didn't start to enjoy tummy time until she started to roll over at 5mo

First of all, crawling is not necessary for development. My son just started to crawl about 2 weeks ago. He started to walk about a year ago. Grin

And if you put him on his tummy against your chest, that counts as tummy time. He doesn't have to be face down on the floor.

Do it in really short bursts, but lots of them. Put him on his tummy when he is calm but alert. If he cries, turn him over, but try again a bit later. You should hopefully find that he will gradually go a bit longer before crying.

You can also give him tummy time by lying him on your stomach when you are lying down, it doesn't have to be on the floor. He might like that more because you can interact with him.

It worked for me with both DD1 and DD2.

Tee2072 yeah my LO likes to try standing with me holding him of course, so it is poss that he might not want to crawl. he did sleep on his tummy for a few weeks at about 6 weeks old as would not sleep otherwise so i wonder if he thinks i might want him to sleep????
