Dd's first birthday is coming up & I've had grandparents & lots of lovely other family & friends say they would like to get her something.

What did you buy for your DC's first bday that has lasted well & they've really enjoyed?

DD has just turned 1, so I can't comment on what will last, but we had the feeling of "what do you buy the child that seems to have everything?" These are the things we requested:

A drum - she loves it
An aquadoodle - probably more for me than her at the moment
A little peole garage - I had fond memories of having a garage, she just throws the people down the lift shaft so far
A walker with alphabet blocks in it - she isn't walking yet, probably not as useful if your DD is walking
A little table and chairs - probably will get used some time in the next year

I asked DD's nursery if they had any ideas, but they suggested a rocker which she already has. I also look out for things she plays with at playgroups for ideas.

A dolly. Hoping to get years out of it!

A paddling pool filled with plastic balls. Never met a child who doesn't love these.

Ooh some lovely ideas there

Yes have already eyeballed an aqua draw- something for us to, ahem, share! And a few people have said the garage too.
A dolly would be nice.
We already have the ball pool and balls which seem to turn up all over the place so that's now gone to Nana's house!

Anything else??

My dd loved her happyland farm. She is coming up to 2 and still plays with it most days. Ball pool from elc was good too. Tea set gets a lot of use too (decanting her milk from beaker and feeding it to Teddy!! Lol) Grin

The drum is an ace idea, I'll be suggesting that too the DPIL as my parents have already got DS a shape matching toy.

We have got DS a bobby car with a handle to push him so I can push him to the CM in that phase where he's walking but not well enough to walk all the way there by himself (he's currently 10.5mo but just started taking his first steps).

At the CM he particularly likes toys that move (spinning wheels, those beads on a wiggly wire) so while we haven't got those as he can play with them at the CM they might be some suggestions for you too. And DPIL bought him a swing last week (one of those plastic ones you can hang off a branch) and that seemed to be a hit as well, so if you've got a garden that could be a good present to ask for.

I promised we wouldn't spoil DS when he arrived but I fear it may already be too late looking at that list!

Thanks for these ideas too (bit late replying) Just seen that lots of the happyland stuff is oataxia at the mo so will have a butchers at that. We've been wondering about getting a car/ trike something like that.
Love the idea of the little tea set too.

Happyland!! or Fisher Price little people stuff. :) A trike with parent handle or Moby car. A tea set/rag doll, ELC click clack track (both mine loved this), bricks, stickle bricks.... ?

Getting all nostalgic & the thought of sticklebricks!

My folks are divided between getting DD a little car or a trike. Any ideas which would be best/ more long lasting?

If you haven't got stacking cups, get some! Especially the ones with some holes in for use in the bath/sandpit/beach. Second tea set.

Go for trike if you don't have a lot of room and car if you have oodles.

You might find sticklebricks have rather small pieces for a one year old, but they can always come out when she's bigger.

Wheelybug. Ds still plays with his sometimes and he's 4!

We got the small one and he used it as a sort of walker for a while as well as a ride along and a dearly loved pet of sorts!

DD just turned one and biggest hit was fisher price musical tea set. She loves it, driving me nuts with pouring noise and mmmmm noises, v cute! Things that have lasted since DS was wee are table and chairs, ride-on rocker, elc pirate ship and duplo, although duplo didn't come into its own until he was over 2.
