my 2 half yr old son wont listen to anything i ask him to do or not do. im feeling highly stressed out at the moment as i feel i may as well be talking to myself. i know hes only 2half but he is quite ahead for his age hes far from silly. so i know he can listen he just chooses not to. sad

I think we all go through stages like this with our toddlers, my DS does exactly the same. If he won't listen now I switch off the tv, or stop playing and make him look at me and listen, it can go on for 5 to 10 mins but until he's listened I don't allow him to continue with what we were doing. it's such a difficult age and they do drive you nuts. Try not to get too stressed, he's not doing it out of spite, it's just because he's a toddler and that's what they do. Big hug xx

DS always through a 'selective hearing' phase when he's growth spurting. No idea why, but they tend to be short-lived (but frequent)

It certainly tests our patience doesn't it?? Then we've got it all again when they are teens, magic! Xx

try maintain eye contact when speaking with him.

You know what? I would actually go with totally ignoring all extreme behaviour (good or bad) for just half a day or so. I bet you're sick of the sound of your own voice and he's perhaps tuning it out? ...then go totally overboard with positive interaction with him. Hug him all the time, overwhelm him with positive comments etc. Really not let him have a minute to himself and grab him for cuddles as much as you can. Shouldn't take more than a day then he'll be desperate to do his own thing for a while.

I know this sounds bonkers and people have scoffed at me before for this, but then they do it grin

I'm actually going to follow my own advice on this. DS is being a nightmare at the moment, selective hearing and bouncing off the walls.

jareththegoblinking that sounds like pretty good thing to try and i havent done it before so yeah il have a go. ive been doing the eye contact and he just spins his head away somtimes i look at him so much i feel like my eyes going to pop out lol. i have tryd ignoring him to a certain extent, but its never long before he finds somthing to irritate and he knows to get my attention. il have a go at the whole ott cuddles and stuff maybe hel start to thing leave me alone smile lol
