"Witching hour" at 6 months?

DS is 6 months old and from about 5pm until bedtime (6.30-7pm) he is very grumpy and fussy and grizzles constantly. I thought it was overtiredness (he only catnaps during the day) but even when he naps late in the afternoon, he is still crying after 5pm . I thought only newborns have a "witching hour"? I was hoping he might grow out of it, but no sign of this yet. He is happy in the bath, but then screams and screams when taken out and while I dry him and put his sleepsuit on.

Will it get better, and any idea when? I started to dread bedtime.

My DS is 8.5 months and is still grizzly in the evenings. He has always hated getting dressed and bedtime is always a screaming session. Once he's being fed he's fine and goes down no problem. Sorry, no answers but similar story x

Thanks milkyjo, it might be just the way he is then... he also goes down easily 9 times out of 10. I guess we'll just have to ride this out for the next months (years?).

My DD is 10 months and if she had had a good nap in the afternoon she is better but if not... Another story.. Sorry, you may have a while to go yet....:)

My 6 month old does this too. If she naps at about 4pm, it's better. No nap, and it's dreadful. Like today... she's knackered but won't nap, which means the witching hour until bedtime will be 'challenging'.

Wow, I was asking my dm for advice about this yesterday, seems to be more common than i thought. My ds is nearly 7mo and EVERY night he screams cries when getting him into his sleepsuit. We have the same routine each night, bath, massage, sleepsuit, feed then sleep and have done this since he was about 3 weeks old but he now hates getting dressed. Naps have no affect and he is a good sleeper so think this is just the way it is for now.
