Is it OK at this age? It seems she finds lying and sitting booooorrrrrring now and I am not sure if it's OK to let her do this or not - had read about problems with back development and bandy legs etc. but can't seem to separate the old wives tales from the actual facts/risks etc.

Bandiness is a) normal and b) not caused by weight-bearing. If she's six months and wants to stand supported that's fine. Some babies are walking at 7 months, remember!

Not only ok but perfectly normal and natural!

Don't know anything about old wives tales, but 8mo dd is doing this, started about a month ago, pulling self up and shuffling along furniture, can't get enough of it now. No way will lie down and stay still.

It's part of learning to walk. You've just entered a whole new stage!

I questioned my husband's sister and brother in law about this who are both gp's. Standing doesn't cause their legs to bow. It actually helps their legs get stronger, developing muscles to get them to walk.

My son walked at one and he is pidgeon toed but not because we let him stand and then cruise around the furniture.

Thanks all, I will stop worrying then!

DD is 6.5 months and has been pushing up on her legs whilst I'm holding her since she was very tiny. She'll now push herself up from a sitting position if we hold onto her hands (not pulling her up) and is quite happy. The only downside is that she's not that happy being held sitting on my lap so much as she wants to be standing or commando crawling instead!
