What bed at 16 months?

My second baby is due in march and my first will be 16 months then. I want to use our current cot for the baby from day 1 (as we did with our first which meant no issues transferring from Moses to cot) but wondering what to do with my son? Seems daft to buy another cot but I want to move him into new room well before the baby is born so thinking the less change the better and he will still be quite little really.

Any advice would be great!

maybe you could get a cotbed for your oldest, so that you can move him over to that and it will last him longer, but if he is still happy in a cot type bed then i would just leave the sides on it for a while as 16 months is quite young and really it makes life easier if they are happy in a cot type bed with the sides on! less having to keep put them back in bed and run round after them at night time.. but will feel less of a waste than having to buy another cot, cos once he is a bit bigger you can take the bars off and keep him in it atleast another yr or so, they say til age 5 but i have moved my 3 yr into a single now as i felt he needed bit more space, i do know children in it happily til 5 or so though, without the bars on..

DS is 16 months and in a cotbed (still very much as a cot) and there is no way he could sleep in a bed yet. You're going to need 2 cots for a while I'm afraid!

I would also go for a cot bed, that way you can keep the sides if need be, my two year old is in one without sides and she really loves it. Mamas and papas have some lovely nursery ranges with cot beds half price at the moment.

Ds was 16 months when we moved him into a single bed. He sleeps a lot better in it than he ever did in a cot and at 2.3 now, he still hasnt fallen out. No problems with a single bed and saves another purchase a couple years down the line!

Ds1 was 23 months when ds2 was born. We got another cot. They both slept in their cots until they were nearly 4 so not a waste of money.

We went straight for a single bed too when dd2 was 16 months as she really hated her cot and kept banging herself on the sides. It was easier for an adult to lie down next to her if she woke in the night too.We had a bed guard on it for a while but no issues with her getting/falling out of bed.
