Baby rubbing hair off on sheet

My seven week old DD has just started rubbing her hair off on the sides of her head against her cot sheet as she moves her head in her sleep. She has quite fine hair - although thicker at the bottom, so she's starting to look like an old man! I realise this is quite common with baby hair, but does anyone have any idea how log it takes before baby hair thickens up and starts growing more robustly? And, in the meantime, would a different sort of sheet help? We've been using winceyette sheets, but I seem to remember my gran talking about silk pillowcases to reduce the friction - this sounds a bit of an over-reaction (and I obviously wouldn't give her a pillow at this age) , but has anyone got any experience of what difference a change of fabric makes?

It is perfectly normal, they all do it. My ds2 was ledt with a really thick shock of black hair on the top of his head, none anywhere else. I thought it was cute, everyone else said he looked silly.
At 4 months, we shaved his hair short (number 2) and since then it has thickened, is even and is blonde.
Ds2 is now 2.5yrs.

Use a hat during the day if you want, but don't put a hat on your baby when she's sleeping. She will get hot if you do that.

I really don't think a change in fabric will make much difference, just let it happen, it happens to all of them.
This is a non-problem, don't waste your energy worrying about it.

I hope I didn't come across as too abrupt!
I have 2 ds's (3yrs and 2yrs) and pretty much every minute of the day is a battle of wills, so I am a firm friend of trying to ignore the things that don't matter much.

I happened to all mine, they ended up with a lovely bald patch at the back of their heads from rubbing it against the sheet. Dont worry it grows again no problem, I dont think there is really anything you can do to stop it, mine used to do it like a comfort thing when they were going to sleep.

I remember that stage... My DS was born with a full head of jet black hair... By the time he was 3 months it was gone, sides first then back. I'd have to wash his fitted sheet every day there was so much hair on it. He's 15 months now and has loads of hair, but unlike the jet black he was born with it's now blonde.

Agree with the other posters, don't worry about this :)
My DD's hair not only rubbed off at the back but she also receeded at her temples until she was amnost as bald as her dad! It soon grows back though.

My DS rubbed his hair off at the back and sides, and the hair on top of his head came away with the cradle cap, so he had a couple of months where he looked like a monk!!

I think most babies get more robust hair between 6 months and a year, although sometimes later, and it's often a different colour to newborn hair. DS went from black to brown to red to blonde - I think it's finally settled on a kind of mousy strawberry colour!

My DS is just the same and at 15 weeks looks like he's wearing a toupee (sp?). IMO it's karma from when I secretly laughed at another baby for having the same thing when mine still had his full head of dark hair...
