My dd is almost 8 moths and is not at all interested in picking up her own food. She has not started teething yet but I know that babies with no teeth are perfectly OK to chew some finger foods. Please let me know what worked for you and what I can do to encourage her?

Just keep putting it in front of her and she will do it in her own time. Don't obsess about what food you are giving her, what is the perfect texture etc...it's all pointless. Just throw a bit of something you are having in her direction and wait. It could be a couple of months before she shows any interest but that is fine - she will learn to eat, honestly. I have never met a child so far who hasn't.

I'd second what is said above, just keep trying but don't make a special effort or else you start to resent them not trying. Just a bit off the side of your breakfast toast or sandwich and she'll eventually get the idea. Grin

Good luck!

Just a thought - does she mouth toys and things? If not you may want to ask about this. If she does, then the above suggestions should see her sampling toast corners and bits of your lunchtime ham sandwich in no time. Just keep trying.

BLW says so long as they can handle the food they can eat it - except honey and salt.

Thanks all. Yes, she does put things in her mouth just not food. Will keep trying! :)
