My DD is almost 6 and her temper tantrums seem to be getting more profilic rather than calming down! Tiny things can set her off and she can take well over 15 minutes to calm down. Things seem to be getting worse and she is now lashing out physically.....any advice? I have tried time out and stopping treats until god behaviour returns but nothing seems to be working :(

My 5 year old does this. After it escalating and starting to affect how she behaves with her friends, I am now trying a new tact. My family seem to think that she gets mileage out of the tantrums by getting a rise out of me. So, I am now hellbent on ignoring the bad behaviour. I am telling her to go away with her tantrum I am not interested. Keep walking away from her etc. I take her favourite toy off her for a night etc. I've been doing this for a week and starting to see a major reduction in nonsense from her. I used to do this when she was a toddler but I guess I fell out of the way of doing that because you just want the tantrum to go away you pander to it somehow by trying to pacify/ jolly her out of it.

I'll give this a try but I find it so hard to ignore, I've started to see the tantrums affecting her friendships too and try to remind her that she's a big girl now not a toddler but this only annoys her more! I will attempt to ignore the behaviour for a few days and se if there is any improvement :)

God I know. My DD could not believe the first couple of times I said I wasnt listening and did the whole "give me a cuddle, I cant calm down til you give me a cuddle" business, and I've kept telling her I don't want to cuddle a girl who is behaving like that. That feels harsh to do, but at least the message seems to be sinking in, whereas I would always think I didn't want her being traumatised haha. Once she has calmed down I try to get her to laugh about it. Good luck.
