Hold my hand; I'm being brave. DD is getting the train for the first time, after going swimming (without an adult) for the first time & inbetween she has to walk halfway accross town (also alone)

She will be fine; but will I survive?

How old is she katymac?

If over 10 then you need to learn to do this! grin

Bless you, I am sure I am going to be the same when the time comes.

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 14:33:20

She is 13

We live in the country, so town is scary

I lived in the city (Liverpool) so had doe this by about 11

She'll be fine. My dd was catching the train alone to get to school nine miles away when she had only just turned 11.

It's scary the first time but when she gets home the sense of achievement for you both will make it all worthwhile and you'll both have that little bit of extra independence.

Oh she does the school bus but that's private/school only

Gulp I am a wuss

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 15:48:08

They must be swimming by now

<gulp>

Well Katy just picked up 11yo DS1 from Scout camp where he has been for a week cooking for himself with 5 other lads and sleeping in proper Scout tents. He seems to be fine.

Sure yr DD will be too.

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 16:22:59

Oh cooking wouldn't worry me......just Great Yarmouth in the summer wink

ZZZenAgain Sat 04-Jun-11 16:24:07

it'll be hard for you but she will probably be pleased as punch

ajandjjmum Sat 04-Jun-11 16:26:10

It's really important that you let her do this.

Although I'd get her to text you every 10 minutes for the first time - because I'm a paranoid mother! grin

ZZZenAgain Sat 04-Jun-11 16:27:53

exactly and insist that yes, she even has to get out of the pool to do it! It is nerve-wracking. Keep busy katymac

OP I'm holding your hand tight as I know how you feel everytime I reach that stage with one of my own. I just want to jump for joy whenever mine do anything independently for the first time.

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 16:28:02

She is 2.5 hrs in & no contact

I must not ring/text

ZZZenAgain Sat 04-Jun-11 16:28:58

how long is she going to be out altogether then approximately? - 4 hours?

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 16:32:31

6:15 train home (I think, unless they fall out in which case the 5:15 train)

So yes 4hrs ish

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 17:26:33

Swimming is over
Her friends dad is dropping her at the station

<phew> only an hour to go

KatyMac Sat 04-Jun-11 19:37:05

She was home safe by the start of Dr Who

ZZZenAgain Sun 05-Jun-11 11:26:42

KatyMac Sun 05-Jun-11 20:49:45

She is already planning her next trip; she thought maybe a day in London
