Should dd be doing more at 7 months?

My dd turns 7 months next week. I know I shouldn't compare but other babies of the same age at the baby group we go to seen much more advanced. She hates being on her front for too long. She can't sit up yet, just flops forward straight away. She very occasionally rolls over, but this is only from her front to back, she's never rolled from lying on her back to her front.

She's a very observant child and just seems happy to watch everyone else. She's very alert and seems healthy. I guess I'm just after reassurance really, but is there a point where I should start to ask the pros?

She sounds very normal to me Smile

Sounds normal to me too. I knew of one baby at baby group who could sit up ages before the others but that was because he was so chunky it was impossible for him to fall over if you see what I mean.

They vary so much, dont worry.

Thanks notnow and monkey. When I was pregnant I promised myself I wouldn't compare, but its so hard! She's a very long and slim child (as I was, not so much now), so I do wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Try not to worry about it (hard I know). Babies who wait until later to do these seem to pick them up really quickly.

Two of my sisters and I had babies a year ago within 4 months of each other.

My baby sat at 5 months, and walked and ran in the same week as her first birthday (early September).

Sister 1's baby (born mid November) did not sit reliably until he was 8 months old, and started walking at New Year when he was 13 months. He is now running around everywhere.

Sister 2's baby is just 1 (last week) and is not even that reliable at sitting yet- still needs propping up with cushions iyswim. No crawling, no cruising, defo no moving around at all. Seems bright as a button to me though.

Three very different babies but all developing within the normal range at different paces.

WOW!! This is my dd! She will be seven months next week too and doesn't sit or roll but just loves to watch others!! Seriously, don't worry she will get there in the end.

I bet she will be chatting away to you whilst other babies can only say a few words swings and roundabouts and all that.

Are you weaning your dd? Just wondered if she has 'got' finger food yet? Mine just looks at it and if I put it in her hand she might put it into her mouth but not for long, then she will forget about it and drop it!

Hi sunndydays,

Yes we are weaning, started at 5.5 months. She loves the purees but finger foods have been a slow process. However yesterday we had progress, she put some carrot, broccoli and potato in her mouth. Most of it ended up on the floor, but it was the first time she didn't gag.

She is very chatty, never shuts up sometimes :)

My little man is exactly the same, so off I went to see my GP for some reassurance and that's exactly what I got, he's fine! Like you I didn't want compare, but low and behold I can't help myself! Have made a promise to myself to relax and enjoy him as he is and believe he will develop when he is good and ready.

She sounds fine to me.

I have 2 girls:

DD1
Sitting bolt upright unaided at 4mths!
Never rolled
Crawled at 9 mths
Walked at 11mths
First tooth at 14mths!
Clingy, sensitive soul (aka Hard work!) baby

DD2
Sat up at 3mths, stable around 5mths
8mths today, rolling around the floor
On the verge of crawling
First tooth just broken through
Smiley, happy, layed back baby

Babies are all sooo different.

I know some walkers at 9mths and others at 16mths. Huge variety.
