oversleeping- is it possible?

hi, baby is 3months old, and happily sleeping up to 5 hours a night, waking for feed, then sleeping for another 3. when awake in am has feed then can sleep again for another 3 hrs, then has another nap, at least one or two, is this ok? i know an odd q but worried if anything is wrong.

Is he happy and alert when awake? and is he doing all the things you would expect a 3mo to do? If yes then I wouldn't worry, if not I would go to GP.

11 hours sleep and 2 naps sounds normal to me though.

thanks for reply. Yes, she's upbeat and laughing, can't shake off colds which she seems to have had since she was a few weeks old though.
Didn't want to sound paranoid or over anxious, just wanted to check with other mothers.

My ds has had a constant cold since he was born in July!
I know of one child who was developmentally delayed and the mother was worried baby slept alll the time but HV said not to be silly, she just had a good baby - but I think this child was sleeping over 20 hours a day, and late to smile, coo, etc. The range of acceptable amounts of sleep is pretty broad I think

don't worry ginandtonic - at this age my DD was sleeping around 13/14 hours a night and then about 3/4 during the day - anything between 12-18 hours a day is normal when they're this little.
