The dummy has gone - How do you settle them at night?

DD is 2.6yo and we got rid of her dummies last week. She was amazing about giving them to the dummy fairy but now it takes us up to an hour to get her to sleep at night.

Nothing seems to work. Long walks in the day, no naps, books etc.

Help!

Hit there i did the same with my 7 yr old and my 5 year old... i replaced the dummy with a very special fairy doll that they chose themselves in the shop and i explained to them it was for bedtime so the dummy fairy could watch how big they were growing up...and i kep persistent with my routine of putting them to bed with the special fairy tucked up next to them and they did wake up like normal for about a wek and after that they had completely forgotten they used to have a dummy and wouldnt go to bed without this fairy teddy.....just like a comfort blanket... Your just replacing the comfort they had with a dummy to something more reasonable...hope you sort this out..it wont take to long xxx

Just reinstate the dummy if it's causing you that much grief.

If it's at nighttime only, it won't be long before she's weaned off completely.

oh god, i keep trying to pluck up the courage to do this and still haven't. we move house in a couple of weeks so that's another reason not to (the disruptionb!)..it's like smoking i swear i keep making excuses for her. so i am thinking the period between xmas and new year when dh is off work and it wont matter so much if there is screaming all night long! how ridiculous that someone so small and something so silly as a dummy causes SO much trouble! good luck!

I was dreading it too and put it off for ages. The matter was taken out of my hands though. DD lost her dummy one day and at bedtime we couldn't find it anywhere. So I told her the dodie fairy had obviously been and had taken it to give to a baby that needed it. She seemed to accept it without question. She probably takes a couple of minutes longer to get to sleep now.
