BigGiantCowWithAKnockKnockTail Mon 11-Feb-13 05:53:20

Definitely not
Best option

StrawberryMojito Mon 11-Feb-13 06:03:31

They're all a bit pretentious in my opinion. Catrina is probably the best.

What about Claudia?

SpottyTeacakes Mon 11-Feb-13 06:07:27

I don't like any of them. Catarina at a pinch

KenDoddsDadsDog Mon 11-Feb-13 06:27:52

Catriona rather than Catrina. The rest no.

munchkinmaster Mon 11-Feb-13 07:14:07

Michaela is a big no.

I think katrina is spelled like that or Catriona.

Lucinda is okay.

Given some of the names put about on here I'm surprised what a tough crowd you're getting

rachel234 Mon 11-Feb-13 07:22:01

Pretentious? What on earth makes these classic normal names that..?!

I love Lucinda and Clarissa but also quite like Michaela.

rachel234 Mon 11-Feb-13 07:23:37

And why would you want to add an O to Catrina? I much prefer the sound of Cat-rina.

GaryBuseysTeeth Mon 11-Feb-13 07:27:33

Yes- Is on our 'maybe' list.
Yes- Love this name. Would use it if we didn't already know one (an 18yr old), she went to a comp in Sarf London & didn't get any stick for being pretentious.
No- I don't like the male names with an 'a' tacked on, the Michaela I know has the nn Micky.
No (I've known 2 Katrinas and they both didn't like their it put me off it).

KenDoddsDadsDog Mon 11-Feb-13 07:31:01

It's still pronounced Catrina. Educate yourself.

johnnycomelurky Mon 11-Feb-13 07:31:24

Well I really like Michaela and Catrina though my iPad wants it spelt Katrina. I don't like the way Clarissa sounds and feel like I should like Lucinda but don't.

DessieLou Mon 11-Feb-13 07:40:24

Meant to write Catriona but also like the Katrina spelling. I'm not that keen on Michaela so glad most of you agree! Lucinda is my current favourite. Any other suggestions of classic/pretentious names welcome! ;-)

rachel234 Mon 11-Feb-13 10:32:36

Really, CatriOna is pronounced Catrina? I honestly had no idea! Wonder where that derives from...

Allalonenow Mon 11-Feb-13 10:43:25

I think Lucinda is a lovely name.

Isn't Catriona the Scottish spelling?

poppydaisy Mon 11-Feb-13 11:43:40

I think they're all great underused names - not sure why they would be 'pretentious' (pretending to be what, anyway?).

My favourites are Catrina, Lucinda and Michaela. I'm least keen on Clarissa for some reason. I'd think most people (esp outside the UK) would find the pronunciation of Catrina much easier than Catriona, so I'd go for the former.

Narked Mon 11-Feb-13 11:58:23

If you choose it please spell it Catriona. 'Catrina' looks wrong.

I'm not keen on Clarissa though I don't know why confused.
Lucinda is ok.
Michaela seems a little clunky.
Catriona is my favourite.

ZolaBuddleia Mon 11-Feb-13 11:59:18

I'm afraid I'm not keen on any of them, particularly Michaela.

What about:
Cate with a C

mollymole Mon 11-Feb-13 12:02:10

Love the first two.

youmaycallmeSSP Tue 12-Feb-13 12:48:02

I love Clarissa and Lucinda. Lucinda was my top name for DD but DH didn't like it so she is Annabel.

sw11mumofone Tue 12-Feb-13 20:10:18

I think Lucinda is beautiful. I would just be worried about it being shortened to Cindy.
If you go for Catrina spell it how you like! If you live in England and spell it Catriona you will have a lifetime of No its Cat-reena not Cat-re-ona!

My post seems to have disappeared...
Thank you for your thoughts. Michaels and Clarissa have been ruled out.
What do you think of Cora? I've always liked it but apparantly its getting quite popular now, although I don't know any.

bootsycollins Wed 13-Feb-13 01:23:02

Lucinda is my favourite from all your choices smile

I like Cora but it's getting popular due to Downton Abbey so will be easily dated.

ZolaBuddleia Wed 13-Feb-13 10:24:53

I love Cora too.
