Hello

I really like the name Marlow for a boy. What do you think?

I'm worried that it sounds too much like Marlon which i don't like.

Also how would you spell it - Marlow, Marloe, Marlo etc?

And what could it be shortened to if anything?

Thankyou

Really, really don't like it. Sorry.

Lovely village.

I like names that end in O but your are combining two trends here with a place name and a name ending in O. That is going to date massively. JMO

If you care about this, how about choosing a more classic name with the same feel.

Arnaud
Milo
Roscoe

Um, I really like it.

You could add an e, as per the poet/playwright. Poncy, but original

Milo is nicer I think

I like it as Marlowe.

There was an American singer/actrees called Marlo (so could be mistaken for a girl)

Not my cup of tea at all.

Call the poor thing John if you you want to be different.

I would spell it Marlowe like the writers Christopher and Philip.

I know one.
It's a hard name to carry off in the playground TBH.

Hmmm, it's not the type of name I'd usually go for as it does sound a little bit made-up/surnamey/place-namey but because I'm a fan of The Wire and there's a great character called Marlo Stanfield on it, I'm actually liking it

I know one - a girl - spelt Marlowe.

I love Marlow (easiest to spell) or Marlowe (famously gay and stabbed playwright/poet) - think it's lovely. Everyone has heard it (albeit in different context) and can have a good crack at spelling it, nice sound etc.

I know this thread is totally out of date but I joined mumsnet just to comment on it. We have a little boy named Marlow and we love the name. It's unusual but not "weird" IMHO. Also I think "Mars" is a fun nick name.Grin

Totally agree with Jessie6564 and am shocked at how rude and opinionated some people are in their comments. It's a cool name. Name is far better than some of the awful names people call their kids.

Jessie, did you actually search for your child's name and join Mn in order to tell people what opinions they could and couldn't express on a thread that is 5 years old??? Clue: when someone starts a thread on a names forum asking for opinions on a name, people are allowed to give them.

I knew a man with that surname. He was just like Alan Partridge so I honestly am not keen.
