Baby names - running out of time - need to find one!

Well two actually as we don't know the sex of the baby. I am 39 weeks tomorrow and dh and I are still undecided.

Anyone know of a good website with names - I have had a look but can't find anything. We are after fairly traditional names but most of them seem to be quite bizairre.

Many thanks.

Hi Eulalia

Hard, isn't it? We've got a shortlist of about six of each, girls and boys, and a list of second names too (we are going for a Gaelic first name and English second name).

Do you want traditional popular (Jack, Charlotte, Rebecca, Joseph etc) or traditional unusual (Caleb, Rory, Mabel, Edie, etc)?

I'd say go for books (from the library?) rather than websites, I've never found a really good naming website (ready to be corrected)

i found most inspiration for baby names reading the titles at the end of films/tv programmes

ie directed by
starring
make up
costume

etc!

so take note, watch telly and read books/daily papers in a different light!

What about where baby was conceived! No no that wouldn't have worked for me as my poor kids names would have been something like Lofty and Safeway!

Behind the Name . Lots of different categories. What they call "traditional English" here but I don't think their idea of traditional is the same as one's...page headings are:

AAREN - BAILEY
BALDRIC - CAROL
CAROLA - DANA
DANE - ELIOTT
ELISA - GERRY
GERTIE - JACKSON
JACOB - KARLY
KAROLYN - LETHA
LETITIA - MARLON
MARLOWE - NITA (1)
NOAH (1) - RAYMUND
RAYNA (1) - SHAQUILA
SHAQUILLE - TITTY
TITUS - ZULA

Chortle!

Just looked at kama's most common baby names site, which is American, and checked out DD1's - she was born in NY in 1982. Look at them! Have you ever seen such unanimity?

(She is one of the 3,157 Jessicas! We had no idea it was so popular )

We like...Dominick, Noah, Elliot, Jayden, Alistair, Benjamin for a boy.
Our ds is called Callum.
For a girl we like...Poppy, Trinity, Grace, Lilly.

I hope you find something you both like.
I've still got 15 weeks to choose mine, though I'll still not have chosen by 40 weeks I bet!

Good luck with baby!

Like nailpolish and suzy I used film credits for ideas and I sat once and wrote out a-z on a piece of paper and tried to think of famous actors/actresses old and young for each. Whiles away a sleepless night when you've got heartburn!
