I mean, do they conjure up a glamorous, beautiful or strong person? No. An old lady with wrinkly tights who smells of wee.

bananamumma Thu 11-Mar-10 21:32:36

In general I think that the old lady chic trend is a bit naff now.

These names will date exactly like they did before.

I do like some of the more mainsteam ones though.

I love Blanche, Dorothy, Roberta and Elsie (the latter because of What Katy Did). I'd agree with you about the others, but I'll bet you a fiver we all have grandchildren with these names!!

jojochanel Thu 11-Mar-10 21:57:20

OK so honestly tell me what you think of Joan as a middle name. It's my gran's name so I'd like to use it cos of her but I'm not sure if it's too old lady.....

Joan is due a massive comeback (may already be having one). Joan of Arc, Joan Greenwood, Joanie and Chachi (joke). Not old lady any more.

Cadelaide Thu 11-Mar-10 22:03:16

Mildred is a lovely name.

My neighbour has just called her baby Nora.
