Luca is a nice name (thinking of Dr Kovic from ER now mmmmmmmmmmmmm)
Little boy on Are You Smarter Than A Ten Year Old is called Luca too and he is a very clever, cute young boy

Yes it is. Well the ones I know are

no it's a lovely name. Agree on ER link .

this so-called "chav name" business is getting out of hand

Dont think its chav its just a weak-sounding name. Sort of 'unfinished'.

how about Lucas?
agree with others, unfinished or dhortened kind of name, though

it's a name given by chavs in my area to their children who would previously have called their kids Andre/Stefan.

If you aren't italian i don't know why choose an italian name? although that's just my 2pennorth

I know of one Luca. His parents are Scandanavian and in no way "chav."

I know of one Luca. His parents are Scandanavian and in no way "chav." (Hate the phrase anyway) It is also, round here at least, not an overly popular name either.

I'm sure it's Italian. Jayshawn, now that's chav...

FWIW, I like Luca.

dizzydixies · 03/11/2009 15:28

no, my friend who's husband is of italian descent has a Luca - its lovely

chav is a crass word frankly

the ER Luka is a 'k' luka

and I find it better than Luke for a small child and nicer than Lucas imo

No, I don't think so! But I love Gemma and Zachary and Bethany and Leah.

I only dislike stupid names like Chardonnay and Kaiden.

Do you have one already? If it's just a name on your list, I prefer Lucas or Marcus, but there is nothing wrong with the name Luca

lol at Jayshawn! That's horrible!

What secondcocking said. To the word.

It's kind of like an Italian calling their child Madison.

IMO no name is a chav name ...I like Luca

Luca is popular with parents where one parent is Italian or Spanish or something-it is a lovely name which fits in with most cultures. This 'chavvy' business is a bit tedious imho.

The Italian spelling is Lucca I think

Report

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 17:34

It's Luca in Italian.
Or Dr Luka Kovac
I'd go for Luke. As in Skywalker

Report
Jujubean77 · 03/11/2009 17:36

I always thought it was spelt like the Italian city..

I do prefer Luke, or Luka

Report
Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 17:41

It is deceptive, I agree Juju. I prefer Luke too, even if I'm Italian

Report
Jujubean77 · 03/11/2009 17:46

I am too, I was married in Lucca so that would be a bit ott for me lol

Luca pronounced in Italian is ok, but it is indeed a very common name in Italy.

But, Luca pronounced by many Brits is awful in my opinion and I don't understand why you'd choose the name if you haven't got an Italian heritage. There are so many more 'proper' English names to choose from!

I know three Lucas

And none of their parents could in any way be described as chavvy. In fact they are all quite posh.

Is that reassuring?

Report
Spidermama · 03/11/2009 18:08

I only know Lucas from posh families.
