Arthur or Albert?

Both just new entries on a list of names we are unsure of; but given the recent trend in "Grandad's name", these two don't apear to have made the top 100 yet - opinions?

Also, DH thinks Albert will alwas be a Bertie - is he right?

My dear dad was an Albert and was never abbreviated. If you want an abbreviation and don't like Bert(ie) it could be Al I suppose.

Both lovely! I have an Albert - we always intended him to be Bert, but never got round to it, and he's just Albert. He also has a friend at creche who's an Albert, and he's Albie.

Both! My friends have just called their baby Albert - Albie for short.
I also love Arthur, it's DS2's middle name

I really like both and would be hard pushed to choose. They were on my short list but FIL said they were both 'east-enders mockney' names - Whatever that means ?

I think Albie as a shortening is great - and I really quite like Bert too.

Arthur is a bit more classic.

I have used Arthur as DS1 middle name, and Bertie is our first cat...

I have a beautiful bouncing 8 month old called Albert. He's Al for short but we use the full name a lot.

My friend has an Arthur, and a german friend of hers laughed heartily at the name choice and said (with heavy german accent) 'ha ha, it is funny, in germany ve sink Arthur is very old man name'. She had to explain it was the actually just same here...

I know two Arthurs and no Alberts under 12 FWIW.

Don't think either would therefore be classed as popular (I know a lot of children ).

DS1 who happens to be sitting nearby says he prefers Arthur. So do I but both are nice.

I like both of them, prefer the nn of Albie to Art but prefer the formal name Arthur to Albert.
