Now my boy name is sorted, I shall move on.

Love Louisa, but don't like it shortened to Lou.

Is it inevitable?

TabithaTwitchet Wed 21-Oct-09 22:18:11

It is my name

Only one person has ever called me Lou, my best friend in Primary School. Everyone else has always used my full name.

I know 2 little Louisas and a Louise

Louise is NEVER shortened

The Louisas get called Lulu and Lula

My Louisa is now 13 and her name has never been shortened; a few people try Lou but it has never stuck; I love the name and am so glad we chose it. I think she likes it too and she has no other friends with the same name. She hates being called Louise! I picked a second name beginning with L too and like the alliteration. Can highly recommend it as a happy and successful choice.

My DD's name is one that could also be shortened and so far hasn't been so I suppose I might be worrying for nothing.

It is a lovely name, I don't mind Lulu and Lula it's just Lou that bothers me for some reason. Irrational I know!

Just thought, she has a friend called Eloise, what a pretty name, unbelievably shortened by all her friends to Weezy! You can just never tell.

My ex SIL was louisa and we called her Weez.

i love the name.

btmh Thu 22-Oct-09 12:21:08

my name too rarely gets shortened to lou but do have to correct people when they call me louise smile

Jamieandhismagictorch Thu 22-Oct-09 17:28:40

diddl Thu 22-Oct-09 18:12:17

I love it!

pointyhat Thu 22-Oct-09 18:30:20

no not inevitable. Lovely name

Every Louise I've known has been shortened to Lou -- I like it!

Don't use it if you really can't stand the nickname -- you will hear it -- lots.

bibbitybobbitycat Thu 22-Oct-09 18:33:07

Louisa = totally gorgeous.

I have a ds with a name that many people like to shorten. I just always politely correct them when I hear them doing it. And, so, at 6, he is still the longer version of his name and I hope he always will be.

I think I'll go down the polite correction road if it crops up, until she's old enough to rebel and insist people call her Lou grin.

bibbitybobbitycat Thu 22-Oct-09 18:43:18

Oy phantom, did you used to be little sailing vessels?

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins Thu 22-Oct-09 18:44:36

I did.

nappyaddict Thu 22-Oct-09 19:04:38

I love Louisa and also Luisa, Heloise, Eloisia, Ilona.

piscesmoon Thu 22-Oct-09 19:08:33

Louisa is lovely.

katnkittens Thu 22-Oct-09 19:13:00

Lovely name

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 22-Oct-09 19:16:18

Louisa is lovely really really.

akhems Thu 22-Oct-09 19:16:59

I have a nearly 19 year old Louisa, as someone else said she often has to correct people who call her Louise but that's about all

ThisPhantomPlopsPumpkins Thu 22-Oct-09 19:18:47

Now I need to try and convince DH!

Vivia Tue 27-Oct-09 14:28:41

I think it is far nicer than Louise. My friend's DD is a Louisa and it is shortened to Luli.

CinderellaRach Tue 27-Oct-09 15:04:27

Pretty name x

Spicychicken Tue 27-Oct-09 21:39:21

Have only ever met one Louisa-shortened to Lou and all the Louises I know have been shortened so to speak. GORGEOUS name though.
