Is Lily hideously overused? Will it date badly?

The overuse of Lily-Mae, Lilly-Rose etc concerns me.

However, I am very drawn to it..

It's pretty, but very popular - flower names seem to be the thing at the moment, i.e. Daisy, Poppy. Marigold? No!

You could experiment with different spellings - there's a Lilli at nursery, which is quite cute (and suits her very well - that might another consideration when naming someone after a dainty flower).

I like Lily but not so keen on Lily as a prefix to a double name. It has been over used but who cares if it's a lovely name?

Lily is a really beautiful name. It's always been used so I don't think it will date.

And Lily on it's own is somehow very far removed from the awful Lily-Mae etc I wouldn't associate the names together iykwim.

As you say - lovely name, hideously overused. Go with your instinct!

My CMs mum was names Lille after the town because her dad had been there in the WW1. It was pronounced Lie-lee . But quite nice

I think Lily is really nice. It's fairly popular but there aren't any in either of my sons' years at school (age 6 and 8), and I had the impression that its popularity peaked around the time they were born

I also don't think you should double-barrel it

Iris is also beautiful

My niece and a close family friend are both Lily - one is nearly 2, the other just 3.

I have an Anna Lily 21mo, named after her greatgrandmother Lily Ann. We don't know any other children named Lily either her age or my ds (5) so it doesn't seem particularly overused here.

Lily is a beautiful name, and was a top choice of ours too - never got used in the end.

It's very high in the popularity lists, but I have yet to meet any. Beautiful name though

Just makes me think of that goon-faced pop gonk, Lily Allen. Ugh.

Also: rhymes with too many insults.

I have a 6 year old Lily, there are 3 in her school but she's the only one in her year group and apart from those other 2 I don't know any others.

I'm also not keen on using it as a prefix. My Lily is Lily Emma (middle name picked by her older sister)!

Go for it, I've always had very positive responses to it.
