Is "Hate it the least" a good method for picking a name..

I'm 25 weeks pg with DC3....we have ALWAYS had problems with boys names throughout each pregnancy..(So far I have 2 girls so its not been a problem)..

However I'm convinced my run of girls will probably come to an end (I've been convinced they were both boys...)

We have a girls name, set in stone and we LOVE it...

We have a boy's middle name set in stone, again we love it (but it will not work as a first name with our surname)...

My Dh appears to HATE all boys names...he is the world's least "outlandish" person so I've suggested everything I can think of from traditional to "fairly modern" and "mid range"....

And all he has come up with is a "that'll do" and "I hate that one the least"...

There is nothing wrong with the chosen name (Charlie) but I don't "love" it and he doesn't "love" it - it just seems to be the one the he dislikes the least..

There are other boys names that I love more but he isn't world renowned for compromising (so I can't suggest that maybe we go with something I love as at least one of us won;t be ambivilent to it).

I AM quite hormonal but its upsetting me a little - the thought of this teeny weeny precious bundle having a name that neither parent really loves, they just "don't hate as much as the rest".

(DD1's name was really my choice but she suits it perfectly, DD2's name was chosen as it was DH's father's favourite girls name and they had no girl - it suits her and is ver much her name but at the time I didnlt 100% love it...)

We aren;t really big on "wait and see what he looks like" - I'm a slight planning and control freak and I want to know the absolutes, set in stone in advance...

My DDs call my bump Frisky (after a hamster in DD1's favourite book) and I suspect if he is a boy he'll be Frisky forever...!!

What is your favourite that he doesn't like and his favourite that you don't like - then everyone will try to think of some options.

And what's the girl's name - that 'll give the team something to work on!

Stephen
Luke
Ben
Jude
Christian
Arlo

Middle name is Mongomerie (non negotiable), Surname is akin to Matthews

Girls name is Tess Elianne

Men are so difficult aren't they. For my ds (after two girls!) dh just wouldn't agree on my chosen names, so I ended up agreeing with his chosen name, a name he loves, and I've grown to love it as well.

Charlie is a lovely name. What is the middle name?

sorry, typing is rubbish at the moment - Middle name is Montgomerie

A sister to Popp y Charlotte and Kirst y Louise

Well, Monty Matthews really doesn't work IMHO...

Something that we have decided (although I realise that now makes me sound as if I'm putting limits on and sticking to them concretely...)

After going through pregnancy and labour you have well earned the priviledge of naming the child IMO. Choose the name YOU love. Dh will get used to it!

You've a while yet. Don't panic! dh and I had endless conversations about boys names when we were pregnant with dd, and only really in the weeks before she was born finally found a name we both really liked (she would have been Richard Ezra, although we expected to call her Ezzie). Having a girl threw us a little after all the searching for the perfect boys name! I think it is a bit choose something you both think is OK/don't dislike, although you may find that it seems perfect should you actually use it). Personally I don't like nns as given names, Charles Montgomerie has a lot of gravitas! I like Stephen best of your other names (Stephen Montgomerie also sounds fairly fab).

Montgomerie Matthews is fine, Monty Matthews is also ok, if you love the name Montgomerie then go for it as a first name. I think you might regret it if you don't.

we're on "hate it the least" tbh. I have 9 days to go, and we still haven't settled on any names that we both love (even like is a bit strong for most of them )

I'm convinced that it'll all work out in the end, we'll see the baby and probably one of the names we ruled out months ago will seem ideal.

He could be Charles Montgomerie Matthews (like Mr Burns ) on his birth certificate but just called Monty as an everyday name (also like Mr Burns , not so sure now it's as excell-ent a combination as I have just suggested)

BTW I wasn't deliberately taking the piss above, I thought it was a good suggestion until it suddenly sounded familiar in my head and I remembered the Simpsons.

Are your girls old enough to have a say? May be let them choose out of your shortlist. If it's a name they love and have chosen for their brother, it will become really special for you.

well, the girls would pick Frisky, and Poppy certainly will get all teary eyed when we suggested not actually calling the baby Frisky...

I'm so trying to talk him into Arlo...or anything really..!!!

Lets just start praying for a girl - I did threaten to go for a gender scan to see if this was all a moot point...

We have exactly the same problem (and randomly the same names!!!!) We already have a Charlie (which we both like and also a family name) and now we are stuck for names if dc2 is a boy - but probably going to be Monty (maybe James Montgomery on birth certificate in case he later hates Monty). Our girl's name is also Tess/Tessie.

In our case, DH loves monty but for me it is the name I dislike the least.

I love a bit of alliteration - Monty Matthews sounds supercool to me, full of bounce and fun.

Or Freddie? (sounds a teeny bit like Frisky?) Or Felix? (ditto?)

I also like Charlie.
