Edmund as a change from Edward?

I quite like it. It does sound a bit medieval, but would get shortened to Ed/Eddie anyway??

I think it probably would get shortened, but I'm not too fussed, I would just like something a bit more unusual as his full name.

I think that it looks lovely as a written word as well.

To be frank, DH only likes two boys names, neither of which I am particularly keen on, and I have given him about 20 names and he has vetoed all of them.

However, I have a number of aces up my sleeve:

1. I will have given birth after a knackering 9 months (hopefully) and
2. We went for a slightly unusual choice for DS, DH was not convinced, and now absolutely loves the name.
3. It could be a girl, and DH doesn't do girls names. Apart from vetoing them, of course.

Edmund is so much nicer than Edward. Although I might be biased by having had a long and brilliantly life-changing relationship with an Edmund when I was in my teens.

I have an Edmund! I love the name, and I don't really care about Blackadder/Lion witch and the Wardrobe.
He has been known to be called Captain Slackbladder by a friend of mine though (must stop that before he understands!)
lots of people didn't like it when we told them before he was born though (including my mum!)
General consensus seems to be that it is quite posh, not sure why though.
And people since he was born seem to say "Oh that's unusual is it a family name?", which I take to mean "Why on earth would you call a child that unless it was a family name". But I don't care!

We have an Edward but I was rather tempted by Edgar as a variation. It sort of rhymes with our surname which is why we didn't use it.

I once taught a boy with this lovely name. The other children called him Eddie unless he did something outstanding and they would then almost chant in deep voices "Bravo Edmundo Bravo"!
