what do you think of Hector?

DH and I both love it but not sure we're brave enough!

better than some ! I wouldn't choose it but it wouldn't raise my hackle particularly either.

If you like it - use it - anything goes with names now - and that isn't too outlandish.

I know a lovely boy called Hector, so I associate the name with general niceness, IYSWIM. I think it's a good, strong name.

It's ok I wouldn't use it but I don't hate it.

DH is worried about hannibal lector type name calling - different generation though

I have a friend with a Hector and am astonished how vocal people are to her about not liking the name. She lives and works in a working class area and people have actually TOLD her they think it is pretentious

I quite like it and he suits it.

Hector's House is my first thought.

Sounds a bit posh is my second thought (would the name "fit" in your local area/school?)

I love it but have had it vetoed for the next one. Is a gorgeous name.

My sister and BIL were considering it for their first, and I really like it but DH was very embarrassingly vocal about how it reminded him of a dog on a kids tv show which none of the rest of us had seen.

I think it's nice and sounds quite Scottish.

angelene -thats Hector's House that hes talking about. I don't remember the proramme but I do remember having some HH books at my Grandparents. I think there was a cat called Zaza/Zizi?? too.

It's fine in our area and fits with other boys names (ie.e could be considered prententious without being made-up or outlandish: Felix and Morgan)

Yes Hector's House was my first thought.
Was the cat called Kiki?
How about that for a girl?

Report
hambler · 28/09/2009 10:03

No, Kiki was a frog.
You are right, Zaza was the cat.

All potential names!

Hector is lovely.

What - KiKi and Zaza? Would you really put these on a par with Hector?

Hector - in the same vain as Hugo, Humprey - I like them all

I think it's rather fab but it does make me think of the Morrissey song where outcomes for Hector were v sad...

Was a poor toddler being forced onto the big kid's climbing frame in the park the other day by a really pushy (think Fast Show) dad. Come ON Hector, you can climb that Hector! etc etc. All I could think of was Stop Hectoring Hector...

Or who's a harrassed old Hector

Sunshinemambo · 28/09/2009 10:29

My thinking is that if I really focus on having a name I love for the inevitable DS3 then I will be just as thrilled as if it were DD1 (if that makes any sense whatsoever!)
