Just wondering as DH has a new colleague called Cindy - we've never met anyone called this before and wondered whether it was short for something, but didn't want to ask in case it came across as 'Cindy - that's a pretty stupid name, isn't it?'

Lucinda, probably.
Doubt it's Cinderella.

I think it's a name in it's own right, isn't it?

My cousin recently married a Cindy - short for Lucinda.

Sindy (as in the doll and an American name I think)? Was just plain Sindy to her friends!

Ah - somehow Lucinda or Cynthia seem a lot more likely! Thank you smile

I've known 2 middle ages Cindys in recent years and they were both Cynthias - one became a Cindy when she decidedshe wanted to ditch Cynthia and be a bit more cool (in her 30s) - the other I suspect had always been a Cindy.

Neither of them were Barbie-style Cindys...

Cindy is often a name in its own right....I know of whom is my bestest ever friend.
