What's the first thing that springs to mind when you hear Asa? is it 'different but nice' or 'chav'. Straw poll please, thanks.

It does sound like an acronym for something, sorry.

It's biblical. Hebrew for healer and means morning in Japanese apparently. Did wonder if it was too far out, but don't want DS having a name the same as 4 other boys in his class.

I really like it. Ignore the naysayers. Is a great name.

Chunkamatic · 18/09/2009 12:13

Is there another, legitimate, way to spell it? I really like it but having seen some of the comments about acronyms I can see that now.

It was on the long list for my DS.

Oh yes I recall reading Asa Briggs's books (fab)

Was under the impression it was a girls name until years later

MamaLazarou · 18/09/2009 13:51

It doesn't seem like a real name to me.

I am sure it is, though: it just doesn't sound it.

It definitely sounds like a girls' name.

Its different yes but perhaps a step too far really. Don't saddle him with such a name.
