Middle name, one syllable or ending in "y"/"ie" - any suggestions?

hi there

i am thinking of marina or ariana for my girl's name, but am struggling to find a suitable middle name - probably because i love girls' names that end in "a", but i think two names that end if "a" might be a bit much. my surname has one syllable.

i am looking for a middle name that is ideally one syllable (i love mae/ may and rae, but DH is not keen) and not rose.

do you think a name ending in a "y" would work (i like poppy and evie and names like that)?

Joy- genius . Sounds great. Poppy etc, not no much. One syllable is the way to go.

Possibly Grace, if Joy doesn't suit?

Why not give her a family name as a tribute to someone special? I think people on here put far too much emphasis on middle names. No-one will ever say it. It will be written down on official documents but, for most of her life, no-one will even know what her middle name is - until her wedding day! Why it has to flow nicely or work with your surname is beyond me. I feel middle names are just a nice opportunity to reference someone important. And it is nice for children to feel their middle name is meaningful, rather than just having the right number of syllables or vowels.

Not intended as criticism, just observation.

VanillaIce - I too like the idea of referencing someone in the family. May would do that, and is my preferred option, but DH doesn't really like it. Mind you, I still have time to pursuade him!

I'm completely in agreement with the middle name that means something by the way - my DS's middle name is a family name and any other DC we have will only have family names. I don't really see the point of middle names otherwise! I say that as someone who has no middle name and has happily survived 33 years without one

Agree VanillaIce (though admit I used Grace and Pearl for middle names as both family connection and one syllable). But frankly given how little they are used you might as well use all those Great Aunt names that will never ever be fashionable, even if they appear in Harry Potter novels. Or something amusing for the wedding congregation....
