sadly under used IMO

OrangeAnge Fri 04-Sep-09 10:54:57

Love, love, love it! And I really like Abbey/Abby for short too.

EllieG Fri 04-Sep-09 10:55:43

Love it. And the shortenings.

stripes200 Fri 04-Sep-09 10:57:43

I love it, if I have another girl she will be Abigail, it's lovely.

LouMacca Fri 04-Sep-09 11:16:10

Lovely - and lovely shortened to Abbie too.

shakirashakira Fri 04-Sep-09 11:18:32

Little bit 70s for my liking but ok.

PinkTulips Fri 04-Sep-09 11:21:43

Adore it, it's dd's middle name.

The only reason we didn't use it as her first name is that i don't like Gail as a shortening and didn't want to be put in a situation where everyone calls my dd something i hate, might still happen though, she has a very common first name so may well choose to use Abigail in year to come if she's in school with 5 other [DD's name]s

RoryGilmore Fri 04-Sep-09 11:33:07

Love it, but Abi as a shortened version.

Would be DD2's name if we ever get there

bellissima Fri 04-Sep-09 11:45:14

Not sure it's under used - two in DD2's class. Like it thobut.

And love getting the invitations to their parties (except that both mothers far too young to know what the old bat is talking about when I say that).

beautiful name, go for it!
smile

bruffin Fri 04-Sep-09 11:50:35

It was on my shortlist for DD but she really isn't an Abigail so glad I didn't choose it.

sweetkitty Fri 04-Sep-09 11:53:50

DD1 is an Abigail shortened to Abbie, I know about 6 others round here though luckily she is the only one in her class, I think Abbie has been in the top 20 names for about the past 7 or so years.

my neighburs kid is called Abi - nice name. My best mate at school to.... though i don't like that it means 'servant'

it is a name i associate with good people though.

PinkTulips Fri 04-Sep-09 14:29:41

OOM... it means 'fathers joy' according to all my baby books smile

NeverLeapfrogOverAUnicorn Fri 04-Sep-09 14:33:36

If I'd had a girl I would have used it. I love that name. It's so beautiful, but not one of those cute little girl names that sound stupid on you when you get to 30!

gloomysue Fri 04-Sep-09 14:44:16

Boring.

ninja Fri 04-Sep-09 14:51:12

It's does mean Father's Joy (or Father Rejoiced) - it'sa certainly not 70's (I was born in 1970 and there certainly weren't many around then, I would have noticed). It's a great name and should be shortened to Abi

Can you tell I'm biased wink

I agree Ninja I don't remember any Abigail's when I was growing up either.

Old testament hebrew name meaning Fathers Joy

puffylovett Fri 04-Sep-09 15:49:09

Love it - it's currently competing with Holly for my top name for DC2 if it's a girl, due (yikes!) in a week or so

MaggieVirgo Fri 04-Sep-09 16:03:56

Abigail isn't underused!

LaDiDaDi Fri 04-Sep-09 16:06:42

I really like it.

ninja Fri 04-Sep-09 16:45:43

Yes - I was definitely the only one I knew. I still turn round when people shout Abi blush

Doozie Fri 04-Sep-09 17:22:40

Beautiful meaning, but I just don't like this name or the nn. Sorry!
