Still too closely associated with privates?

YesImSinister Thu 03-Sep-09 22:31:56

grin

<snurks> think that'll be a yes then

Heated Thu 03-Sep-09 22:33:08

Willy & Wally are, imo, still to be avoided.

BrigitBigKnickers Thu 03-Sep-09 22:40:56

Bily,Will or William but not Willy- will spend his entire school career being ridiculed.

BrigitBigKnickers Thu 03-Sep-09 22:41:18

Billy not Bily

BitOfFun Thu 03-Sep-09 22:42:13

Afraid so...

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 22:42:16

But no one ridicules Willy Wonka, Willie Nelson etc do they?

LaurieFairyCake Thu 03-Sep-09 22:44:16

willy wonka s'not real though

and willy nelson is old and american

neither young, living in britain with cock for a name

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 22:46:13

Oh really Laurie, no need to be so vulgar

LaurieFairyCake Thu 03-Sep-09 22:48:01

COCK

<snurk> grin

[no more wine for me]

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 22:49:30

Obscene

LaurieFairyCake Thu 03-Sep-09 22:50:42

look you daft bat, you think Fox is ok too

there is a gap between emily and jack that doesn't need to be filled with 'Sequoia' grin

when i see Willy i think wee willie winkie - it's not great now is it?

YesImSinister Thu 03-Sep-09 22:52:57

PMSL at Laurie grin

seeker Thu 03-Sep-09 22:54:36

Permission to say "COCK"?

BrigitBigKnickers Thu 03-Sep-09 22:54:57

Can you imagine what a real child called Willy Wonka would be called?

A misplaced "a" and he would be scarred for life.

akamummy Thu 03-Sep-09 22:55:49

Billy is a great name. Will is quite nice.

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 22:57:18

I expect more of you seeker

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 22:58:27

Laurie cockcake may be more appropriate

seeker Thu 03-Sep-09 22:59:44

Sorry, i was having a James May moment.

Go for William - and the whole range of abbreviations are open to you.

MyCatIsAFleaBagNoMore Thu 03-Sep-09 23:01:22

I know a Will and a Bill and a Billy, but the only Willy's I've known have either been amazing or crap and ALL attached to their owners (TMI?)

GrimmaTheNome Thu 03-Sep-09 23:02:55

I know a very nice Will whose wife embarrasses him by calling him Willy.

Free Willy <snurk>.

Just because americans think a name is OK doesn't make it so. Knew a guy who had to be gently told that when on business trips to the UK, he should not warmly announce himself with outstretched hand and 'Hi I'm Randy'.

mrsruffallo Thu 03-Sep-09 23:06:02

I don't think it's sloly the preserveof Americans though
What about Willie little jockey chap?
<triumphant smile>

LaurieFairyCake Thu 03-Sep-09 23:07:28

so famous you forgot his surname hmm grin

he's todger sized so it doesn't count......

akamummy Thu 03-Sep-09 23:32:19

I know a Dickie and a Willy and both are very cool guys. Both were teased as kids but they coped.... everyone gets teased don't they?
I think if you like Willy, go for William and then pick and choose nicknames to fit his age.... so Willy might be cute for baby, Billy or Will as a teenager and William when he wants to be taken seriously.

Tortington Thu 03-Sep-09 23:33:38

getting teased because your name is another word for cock is somethng that can be avoided

the whole thing is ridic

as is fox

just ridic
