Please critique my girls shortlist

I like Thomasina, Cecilia, Agatha and Beatrix as I think they are all strong names but very feminine and pretty also.

I am not so keen on the others.

Augusta, Thomasina, Enid and Agatha are too old fashioned. I know that probably makes them possibles for a resurgence but some names should just stay in the past.

Beatrix - reminds me of Beatrix Potter books which I don't like.

Arabel - isn't that a type of farm? I would prefer Arabella personally.

Margot - the Good Life. Middle aged persons name to me and a bit snobby!

Cecilia and Rosamund are nice though.

Rosamund could be shortened to Rosie which is nice for a little girl imo.

Augusta - I like this. It's got a 'wise' feeling to it, and also reminds me of summer. Very smart name.

Thomasina - I can't say I like it at all. It sounds to me as though you liked Thomas for a boy, and just stuck an 'ina' on the end when you couldn't come up with anything better for a girl! Not saying this is what happened - just that's what I thought of when I saw it.

Enid - Quite cute - has associations with the children's author which I think is quite nice. I could definitely imagine a little girl with this name.

Rosamund(e) - Beautiful and elegant.

Cecilia - Not bad, but not to my taste. It's always seemed a bit of a weak name, especially with the nn Sissy etc.

Agatha - Not keen on the harsh 'Ag' at the start. Reminds me of hag, rag, sag etc. Just what first pops into my head though, it's a perfectly good name!

Beatrix - Like it a lot - again a children's author name which is sweet. The nn 'Bea' is also nice. A classy name.

Arabel - Not as keen - I think it sounds a bit harsh.

Margot - Makes me think of mangoes, for some reason! I think there are stronger names on your list.

My faves - Rosamund, Beatrix, Augusta and Enid (in that order).

My least faves - Cecilia, Agatha, Arabel, Margot and Thomasina (in that order).

Like Cecilia. Not sure on the 'classic female authors' list. Arabel sounds masculine without at least a further 'le'. Prefer Rosalind or Rosemary to Rosamund (its the mund bit). Thomasina sounds like a kitten's name, or as if you are trying too hard.

I think Cecilia is the best. Intelligent but still pretty.

Beatrix - rather severe i think though Bea is cute for a little girl...

Arabel - agree, it sounds unfinished and too much like arable!!!

Margot - dull

Enid - Blighton only and therefore not OK
Rosamund(e) - my favourite, this is really lovely, wouldn't spell it with an "e" though

Beatrix - prefer Beatrice (which I think is lovely) otherwise it's Potter jokes all the way and can be shortened to "Trixie" which I don't like.
Arabel - nice but prefer Arabella, or Amabel (I really like Amabel!).
Margot - OK, The Good Life

Augusta - i love this name, the lady that fitted my wedding dress was called Augusta and i thought it was such a lovely unusual name....

Rosamund(e) - nice, Rosamunde Pike is gorgeous and makes me think of her
Cecilia - i can just hear suggs singing this and it is not good....
Agatha - yes. think this could be very cute.
Beatrix - i love Bea, but just thing Beer-tricks potter
Arabel - Arable - farming land
Margot - LOVE LOVE LOVE - met a gorgeous Margot recently and she loved her name...

Just my immediate thoughts, which seem to hinge largely upon children's books for some reason. Favourites are Cecilia and Beatrix.
