What do you think of Ernest?
We really like it but i am not sure it goes with our other boys names (Eli and Amos) although it does fot with our dd's.
Also worry it might get mega popular along with Albert, Archie, Ned etc.
Would love some opinions please!

Disastrous! Please don't do that to a baby...

i don't particularly like it (or dislike it) - i doubt it will get popular to be honest. I think it does go with your other two names.

janeite Fri 28-Aug-09 17:18:52

I think it's sweet and it goes with the other names but for goodness sake don't shorten it to Ernie, whatever you do.

Anste Fri 28-Aug-09 17:34:52

Emily Bishope was married to Ernest ... say no more!

Thunderduck Fri 28-Aug-09 17:48:59

I hate it.

jamandjerusalem Fri 28-Aug-09 18:03:42

I love it. DS was going to be Ernest Rex, but it didn't quite suit him when he was born. He's Arthur.

What's wrong with a shortening to Ernie?? Not great for me as I'm in the south west and it doesn't sound lovely in a Somerset accent, but I think it's a sweet name.

Plus 'The Importance of Being Earnest' is my favourite Oscar Wilde work!

i don't think there's any chance of it becoming popular let alone mega popular!
your pregnancy hormonies are playing tricks on you, please don't do that to a baby.

Yikes! No.

piscesmoon Fri 28-Aug-09 19:12:40

Poor child!

piscesmoon Fri 28-Aug-09 19:14:20

I would say that the chances of it getting mega popular are nil!

Scottie22 Fri 28-Aug-09 20:43:21

My friend has a ds called Ernest - was quite surprised when she told us her choice I must admit! I quite like Ernest tbh but hate Ernie though - reminds me of Sesame Street!

MrsVik Fri 28-Aug-09 20:49:08

This was my grandfather's name. I must say I don't see what's awful about it! If names like Albert and Archie can be 'in' then why not Ernest?

Cluttergump Fri 28-Aug-09 21:12:18

NO...Ernie is just not a nice name imo

Firawla Fri 28-Aug-09 21:27:48

I think it fits in with those kind of names, so can see it getting slightly more used but prob not mega popular, i think its quite nice

random Fri 28-Aug-09 22:02:04

But baby Ernest ...sorry but pmsl

Thunderduck Fri 28-Aug-09 22:10:11

I think Albert and Archie are awful too.

janeite Fri 28-Aug-09 22:13:45

Ernest is much nicer than Albert or Archie.

random Fri 28-Aug-09 22:15:15

Albert .Archie ..Ernest ...Give me a nice Jayden any day ...and I'm being serious grin

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow Fri 28-Aug-09 22:34:58

love it.

wook Fri 28-Aug-09 23:19:36

It's my ds's middle name, after his grandfather. Nearly was first name! It's hugely unfashionable, but maybe that's a good thing!
