Denial is not a river in Egypt.
Dh and I are coming from very different places
Me - Gabriel, Xaviere, Christian, Fabian
Dh - Robert, John, Garry, Lee

It just ain't going to happen is it? Can anybody think of something? Anything? Our other two are Alexandra and Theo.

just to throw another spanner in the works, none of your DH's names go with the other 2

You can tell him that from me ( )although I'm afraid I only like Christian out of your choices

You really are polls apart! I have no idea where to start with suggesting compromises but I am fascinated to see what you finally agree on (but please avoid Garry and Lee!).

My current fav boys names are Reuben, Miles and Caleb.

Hmm. I think I'm somewhere in the middle ground between you. Garry? Really?

How about these, which I think/hope go well with your other children's names

Dominic
Benedict
Vincent
Sebastian
Nicholas

Thank you! You've mentioned quite a few family names. I really like Kit, but again dh isn't keen. He really likes William, which is Theo's middle name. The thing is I LOVE Gabriel, and can't seem to settle on anything else, but he hates it, so I know I've got to let it go. I also love Theo, but sort of regret Alexandra, and don't want to feel like that about this one. It's so hard, naming.

Why don't you go with something with a similar meaning?

Theo means god's gift or brave people apparently (lovely by the way) so maybe Matthew (gift of the lord) or Michael (who resembles god), both of these are my brothers name coincidentally.

Or Conrad (brave, bold ruler), Hardy (brave, Bold).

FWIW I love all they names!

Alexandra means mans defender which is lovely if she is now a big sister to two.

Alasdair/alistair also means mans defender.

Good luck and let us know what you agree on!
xx

Patrick.

Yes Patrick would fit in with the other too. Also maybe Dominic might fall between the cracks of your differing tastes??

Me -
Gabriel - this is nice, a perfectly good name which is 'of the moment' so he'll never be teased or feel out of place.

Xaviere - nmsaa, a bit try hard
Christian - ok, maybe Christopher with Kit for short might fit in with your other childrens names.

Fabian - I like this, but I can see this would be one your husband would hate the most.

Robert - I do like this. I had similar problems to you with my x and had Robert/Robbie and Richard/Richie on the list.
John - I don't hate it, and it IS unusual. But there's not enough there. Jonathan is better I think.

Garry - is your husband serious?! You can't everybody will snigger. If he thinks they will snigger more at Garry then they will at Fabian, then he's out of touch with what people are calling their children, and out of touch with people's taste in names today. What about Greg?

Lee - well, I love Leo, but with a Theo, you can't. Even Lee and Theo is a bit eee eee. What about Saul?

ps, if it's any consolation, 4 yrs ago, I wanted to call my son Bruno, Thaddeus or Jago. My x's suggestions were all just popular classics, and the odd insane choice along the lines of Gary.

We eventually compromised with a name which is an unfashionable classic if you see what I mean. Think Victor, Donald, Richard and you'd be along the lines. I love it now.

Thanks everyone, really good selection of names, I think we have both abandonned our Garry/Gabriel fantasies. What about Finn?

Is it too similiar to Theo? The 'f' sound. I just don't know anymore. Tbh I was counting on him changing his mind over Gabriel, but obviously not.

I love Gabriel.
From your DH´ss list I could tolerate Robert.
Joshua? Is that v. popular?
From other suggestions, I like Sebastian,Caleb& Felix.

I chose the names for both of ours-my reasoning being that `d carried & given birth, the least he could let me do was name them!
