It's too trendy and 'babyish' IMO. Jack is also too popular but it's strong sounding rather than cutesy. I prefer strong names for boys like Max, Ben, Zach etc. Freddie, Alfie etc just sound abit 'too nicknamey' and great for kids but not grown men. They could go to Alf as a man but that is a terrible name.

It after my DP grandad who recently past. His names was Alfred hence why we're thinking of Alfie.

We had semi agreed on Jack- even though i'm not 100% because its way to popular, my DP is very subborn when it comes to names because he was bullied for years because of his.

I like Jack. It's maybe not going to set the world on fire, but is solid (and I think solid is good for boys names)

I have a dog called Alfie so whenever i hear the name called in a park i expect to see a dog running around!!! But obvioulsy love the name otherwise wouldn't have given it to my dog , he is 9 now so name has been popular for a while.

We have only ever met one other Alfie and as far as I am aware, there is only one other in his school.

Alfie sounds like a cartoon character - not a good name for a man imo.

Alfred is better, more solid. I'd probably shorten to Freddie.

Jack is just so, so boring as there are just so many Jacks around....

Alfie is short for Alfred and Jack is a nickname, usually for John I believe.

I love Alfred, but would shorten to Alf or Fred.

Alfie sounds like a dog's name and/or a nickname for a little toddler. Also sounds ridiculous in other languages imo.

Alfred is much better - works well in French, German and Spanish - and gives more nickname options - I prefer Fred or Freddie.

Jack is ok, but so very, very common. There are 2 in my ds's class, known as Jack C and Jack R.

Love Alfie - not a common name here at all. Jack is a bit popular, but hey, if you like it what the hell? Don't get this "can't give him my favourite name because there are a few others in the area" approach to names

Paolosgirl, if you, like me, was one of 3 in your class and known as name 1, name 2, name 3, then you would understand why some parents prefer to avoid names that are very common in a certain area.
