oh sorry, you wanted reasons

1 - my lovely old auntie was called Alice
2 - it's nicer than lucy and Iris
3 - It's nicer than Iris
4 - I think it's quite an ugly, harsh name.

Lucy
Iris
alice
Eve

There are 3 Eve/Evies starting in reception when we go back

They're all very pretty. I would probably vote:

1- iris
2 - Lucy
3 - Eve
4 - Alice

Complete opposite to Hecate, then!

In order of preference

  1. Eve - adore this name, was on my list if ds3 was a girl

2.Alice - Sounds right, whatever her age
3.Iris - Not many about
  1. Lucy - Loads of them about

reasons

Iris, Lucy and Alice all pass the pretty but serious adult test.
Lucy and Alice are timeless. (Iris is quite of the moment).
Eve is too popular

1 Eve - lovely, classic, biblical etc
2 Lucy - classic, traditional
3 Iris - flowers are always nice (!), there is a nice lady called Iris at our church who saves things (like free posters etc from the paper) for my DSs and I like the fact that the nme is becomning popular again
4 Alice - don't like it, never have

  1. Alice - pretty name

  1. Lucy - sounds pretty

3&4. Iris and Eve. Eve - seem to be lots around - quite 'of the moment' and I prefer classical names. Iris has bad connotations only because a relative is very ill with Alzheimer?s and that is her name - so totally irrelevant reason for you.

Today my thinking is this (it changes constantly, lol):

My favourite is Lucy. Beautiful name - timeless, classic (and of course I have a lovely one myself )

Iris - I really like. Different without being unusual. Very pretty.

Eve - I'm just not keen on this name. There is a huge influx of Eve's/Evie's atm and although it's an ok name, I'm just not a fan.

Alice is ok.

Good luck

Alice - pretty name, ages well.

Eve - A bit popular maybe, but for good reason.

Lucy - Sounds a bit like a nickname - in my opinion not as strong sounding as the others on the list.

Iris - reminds me of eyes. Don't really like this name much.

Good luck!

Iris - just like it.
Alice - like it too.
Eve - a lovely name but loads of them in these parts.
Lucy - always sounds like a spoilt brat to me (sorry!)

  1. Eve - just love it

  1. Lucy - Another fave

  1. Alice - like also, but not as much

  1. Iris - a bit to twee and old-ladyish for me

  1. Lucy - pretty, feminine, not overused round here. Lends itself to some sweet nicknames for a younger child eg Lulu.
  2. Alice - nice but a little bland.
  3. Eve - pretty name but very overused lately.
  4. Iris - not keen, not sure why as it's not an awful name it just seems very dull and middle aged to me - there are other flower names I prefer.

  1. Lucy. Timeless, classless (i.e. doesn't rbing to mind any stereotype to me. Not that many around here. I.e. only 2 in the whole of dd's primary school of 400+ pupils.
  2. Eve. Pretty. Not especially common round here. OK.
  3. Iris. Though has an edge to it IMO.
  4. Alice. Boring. Bit horsey.
