Entrants for boy's names include:-

Honestly, on every page there are about 2 names out of 20 that aren't totally insane. I'm not sure I dare venture any further ......

In my baby name book is Cnut. I'm sure it must be a proper old fashioned name, but seriously, who would use it??

dizzydixies Sat 01-Aug-09 21:32:51

I had an American one once and it had Celery in it as a genuine option hmmgrin

Cool baby names or something, serves me right for buying one with such a title!

LynetteScavo Sat 01-Aug-09 21:35:54

Which book is it!

And thank heavens you bought a book instead of asking us!

Oh, and Cack isn't in the Oxford dictionary of fist names - therefore it isn't a name! grin

LynetteScavo Sat 01-Aug-09 21:37:21

Clitus, howver is a "real" name.

Tidey Sat 01-Aug-09 21:38:36

Fist names <snort> Sorry LynetteScavo.

Are you sure it's not a comedy name book, taking the piss out of the outlandish names people use nowadays?

And I think Cnut is a variant of Canute and Knut, as in King.

Its the 40,001 Best Baby Names Book (apparently The Very Best Baby Naming Book Ever).

Just goes to show that sometimes, less is more grin

I think we might go with Boleslaw - Bo for short wink

Tommy Sat 01-Aug-09 21:41:13

Boleslaw is making me LOL grin

I always found that whichever baby name book you looked at, there were always more names that you wanted to out a cross through than a tick by hmm

Tillyscoutsmum Sat 01-Aug-09 21:43:35

Page 236 offers us Spunk, Spanky and Spurgeon

Tidey Sat 01-Aug-09 21:45:20

Isn't Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?

I'm wondering about Boleslaw too. Someone thought of Coleslaw, but decided it was classier with a B? Some kind of truncated version of Boyle's Law?

pasturesnew Sat 01-Aug-09 21:46:00

This is fab, was wondering what to call the new baby, now happy with Bingo Bloo, suitable for a boy or a girl, too!

Tillyscoutsmum Sat 01-Aug-09 21:48:51

Boleslaw is apparently Polish and means "in glory"

DiamondHead Sat 01-Aug-09 21:49:40

Mine's has Kuntala for your cherished newborn baby girl.
Whatever your culture is - not one for an English speaking playground.

dizzydixies Sat 01-Aug-09 21:49:50

Spanky is fantastic smile

there was a lady who actually named her child Bingo on a names board on <<whispers>> another forum

Tillyscoutsmum Sat 01-Aug-09 21:58:31

LOL at Kuntala

I'm amazed my mother didn't consider Bingo for me - named after her second home smile

It's definitely a boy but Dijonaise might have been a contender for a girl. Apparently, its a combination of Dijon and Mayonnaise (like that makes it ok shock)

CarmenSanDiego Sat 01-Aug-09 22:07:32

Oh! I had one with Anal in it. Pronounced Ah-nahl

Giggling here at Boleslaw

Tommy Sat 01-Aug-09 23:52:40

so I guess Boleslaw is pronounced Bol-es-lav - which makes it more plausible I guess (if I were Polish)

you could have Boleslaw and Dijonaise and have a salad bar grin

Cnut - now there's a name you don't see very often these days... poor sod would be bound to develop dyslexia to the amusement of all his friends.

Funny how when I was at school, books were clear that his name was Canute. Are historians these days just more honest/less uptight? Or do they have filthy minds?

totalmisfit Sun 02-Aug-09 13:02:11

i had that book when we were expecting dd. half the names weren't names by any stretch of the imagination. did give me a laugh though. i lent it to a friend when she was pg and now i'm expecting dc2 i have a much more boring and short baby names book to work from!

ninedragons Sun 02-Aug-09 13:15:22

Spanky Cnut would probably end up having a really mundane porn star name. David Williams or something.

wuglet Sun 02-Aug-09 13:17:11

IIRC that book also has the name "Schmoopy" (for a girl of course)

Celery Sun 02-Aug-09 13:32:59

And what's wrong with the name Celery? huh? huh?

dizzydixies Sun 02-Aug-09 15:01:22

blush sorry Celery, my bad grin

pixiestix Sun 02-Aug-09 15:45:20

pmsl at this thread! Spanky Cnut grin

pedalmonster Sun 02-Aug-09 18:09:15
