Christabel or Emmeline?

We have a dd due in November. We are thinking Emmeline and Christabel as first name and one middle name and maybe Zelda as the second middle name. Our current DD is called Marianne Catherine Isabella. Any opinions?

I'm currently leaning towards Christabel first, but DP says it's too close to my mum's name (Christine) and his mum might get upset. My entire family don't like Zelda, but that's because they are thinking of the aunt from Sabrina the teenage witch, as opposed to Zelda Fitzgerald, which is who we are thinking of. But then is she a good role model as she was mostly famous for being rich and being married to someone famous (I know she was a writer herself, but it's pretty accepted she only got famous due to F. Scott) Plus she was mental, and while I am personally quite mental it's not really a life aim is it?

I like Emmeline and Christabel and hate Zelda. Marianne and Emmeline sound lovely together.

Is there a Pankhurst theme going here?

On the Pankhurst theme, Sylvia was the most admirable I think.

Emmeline is beautiful!

Zelda is awful but I love Emmeline!

Christabel reminds me of a hideous poem I did at school with the stupid line of

'Is the Night chilly and dark?
The Night is chilly but not dark.'

Emmeline Mary
Emmeline Christina Mae
Emmeline Gabriella Hope

I do love the shortening of Emmie as well.

'Christabel' is by Samuel Taylor Coleridge - I like it!

What about Sylvia? She was by far my favourite Pankhurst.

Pointydog, when you see your post in Threads I'm On it looks like you've posted Tweezelda - pretty bad.
Which I think few would dispute.

Will you shorten them? Emmeline - Emmie or Lina. Christabel - Christy or Bella?

I think both are fine. Marginally prefer Emmeline.

Loving the suffragette theme, though

Definitely Emmeline.

Have you read the AA Milne poem?

If I'd had a girl she would have been Emmeline.

Emmeline.

I have a Clementine and would love an Emmeline but they are too close. Clemmie and Emme!

Christabel is a lovely name.

Emmeline is not nearly as pretty and doesn't go nearly as well with Marianne as Christabel does.

Christabel and Emmeline are both FABULOUS names - for obvious reasons!

Zelda is a popular Nintendo game. Also: Terrahawks.

Are you naming her after people you admire or is it just the names you like? The Pankhurst names seem to come up a lot on this thread and I am getting a bit

Sylvia was arguably the most principled Pankhurst of all, but I don't seem Mumsnetters rushing to name their daughters after her (though in fact her real first name was Estelle). Christabel was Emmeline's favourite.

As for Zelda, again it seems you have picked a name you like and are trying to hammer a meaning on to it. Which is fine! You can pick names you like without them having to have a extra dimension.

We picked Clementine as I was reading the private letters of Winston and Clementine Churchill at the time and was in awe of the woman's strength of character. Is that a problem then? Naming your child after someone you admire???
